How about this load of crap...

Did anyone else see this?

My husband and I have two children, and he has a daughter from a previous marriage. How much should I leave my stepdaughter in my will? - MarketWatch

I feel like we should all post a comment because the advice given is total junk.

Or you can copy-paste all the past threads about exactly this, and the stories included!

"My SD wants all her deceased fathers personal items and is trespassing and stealing!"

But for me the answer is $0. I am trying to figure out how to make damn sure my Skids never see one red cent of my money or assets & we aren't even married! He already knows I won't marry him because of his kids. The oldest is a manipulative user, loser, lazy take advantage of anything he can. At least my SO agrees with me (sadly) & understands my position.

The guy on marketwatch recommended giving her 1/3. Mind you its HER money (a fair amount too!). They never see sd and she only calls for money/needs.

Major eyeroll crap advice.

I also rolled my eyes at the article and sorry but this is the problem with everything today. Even your own children are not entitled to anything & I don't understand why people don't get that. If you want to donate it all to charity & give nothing to your kids then do it. I personally want my parents to spend every penny of their money & enjoy it if they can.

I would rather donate my money to fascists and evil dictators than seeing it go to any of my steps

I am serious, i will sell out my principles to avoid doing anything for the steps and certainly not my hard earned money to a bunch of low lives with criminal backgrounds and geds/middle school education

NEVER

I am surprised they didnt advise the stepmom to give all her earnings to the SD and allow her to dance and piss on her grave with a special provision in the will for that

The bio parent should be able to will their daughter whatever they want. But the step parent has zero obligation. If they have a positive relationship with the skids then wouldn't they naturally want them taken care of and make provisions for that? But if there is zero relationship, it's not their circus, not their monkey.

I don't have any bios.. everything goes to my DH.. and everything he has goes to me if he passes first.. all of the rest that is left will be split between his two daughters.. and I'm ok with that.. not like I have kids of my own..lol and i won't be around to care.

I can see some thought that trying to keep things equitable among siblings.. so that is why 1/3 was suggested.. but the reality is a SP does not have to include their sk in the will .. unless they WANT to.  Personally.. in this situation I would probably give some to my SK.. but the majority to my bios.. of course a lot depends on relative size of estates.. whether the sks have potential to inherit more from other family  (not that a sp is obligated to keep things equal.. just that personally I might be inclined to do more or less depending like if the sk was going to get a pile from BM side? why short my kids.)

Well, if they never see SD, she calls only when she needs money and the assets belong to SM, I'd say leave a big fat NOTHING to SD.

Heck, I actually like my SDs, and they'll still see nothing from me.  Any assets I have will go to MY daughter.  (In reality, it's more like my dad, who actually has the assets, will leave them to my daughter in trust rather than me so there's no question of them going to DH or the SDs).  The SDs have two parents to inherit from.  My H is financially inept and will have nothing to leave, but BM married well and her DH, the Golden Goose, views SDs as his own. I do not.

Many folks in my area will gift assetts to SPCA or other animal charities.

I like the idea of creating a "grant fund" for a needy child who desires to go to college and will do the work. Since I have no kiddos of my own.

This is a lovely, very thoughtful idea.

CLove, you are a mother at heart.

I brought property into the marriage. DH had nothing but a scrawny high functioning autistic brat. I asked for and got a pre-nup. DH will be able to use and profit from the property while he's alive, but after we both check out it's all going to an established charity. SS 36? has been a burr under my saddle since Day 1 and I have specified in my will that he gets nothing. Market Watch can eat my dust.
