Well, the Skid is now a HS graduate
Unfortunately the whole evening had an undertone of disappointment for my wife and I and my parents. My wife's parents were their usual jovial selves.
Only 73 more days until the next mile stone. His 18th B-day.
Though disappointed, he and I had a nice moment. When we were waiting for everyone else to get out of the rest room I told him that I was proud that he had buckled down and graduated on time. I also told him that being his Dad was one of the most special and rewarding experiences I have had in my life. He thanked me for loving he and his mom and gave me a hug.
In Dec when he brainfarted his way out of boarding school I did not think it was possible for him to graduate on time. So, disappointing or not, he did do a good bit of work this semester.
I will say that I was impressed with the graduation ceremony. They managed to get through the entire graduation from start to finish in a bit less than 2hrs. With 535 graduates that is a notable accomplishment. They called every single name and every single kid walked across the stage to get their diploma.

Congrats Rags on a job well
Congrats Rags on a job well done raising this boy! Now I have a question... what do you do with an 18 year old that just graduated, not enrolled in college (yet) and not getting a job either? That's my situation... We've told him he has to get a job... we've HIGHLY suggested going to school. We told him he can only stay with us and have free room and board if he is in full-time school. This kid has had basically NO responsibilities... no chores really to speak of, etc. But I refuse to let play and/or sleep all day while we work our butts off until he decides to get off his lazy butt. Any suggestions on what should be required of him until he is going to school/work? What are reasonable chores even if he was going to school and/or working?

I'm planning that mine gets a job-pays for car, insurance, and school. At the very least by still living here and expecting to wash his clothes, take showers, eat, etc... he will contribute by continuing to mow grass, take out trash, cater to the felines. May make him either get his own phone or pay his share on my line.
DIA, You tell me. You just
DIA,
You tell me. You just described by SS. We are guiding him aggressively to the Marine Corps. His Mom wants him to go to college but he has not applied, has no idea how, has no clue about how to find a job and is pretty much without any options at this point.
The kid has never had any consequences for bad decisons. The SpermClan tells him that if he does not want to do what his Mom and I think he should do that he can just go live with them. His Mom has always attempted to compensate for the situation of his birth. She was a 16yo single mom. She oscillates between rantin at him and treating him like he is 8yo.
So, he has not idea how to be a young adult and will have a very long way to go in closing his maturity gap.
Stay tuned on the Skids journey to viable adulthood. I believe this will be one very long frustration filled journey for his mom and i.
