Ss's midterm progress report
Bit of a mixed bag. First the good news. His grades sky rocketed up. They are amazing. We always knew he had the brains, just the lack of desire to do well. He did amazing in his midterm tests. And he did very well considering all the craziness at the start of term. He has missed a lot of school as well. Before he would not complete tests. But this time he did. Which brings us to the bad part, he only completed the tests because he is still in his resigned state of mind. He just does what the teachers tell him. He no longer wants to fight about anything. He didn't do the tests because he wanted to better himself. Is it crazy that we prefer Ss to be difficult as compared to being so incredibly passive?
He got 93 in French, 89 in Computer science, 95 in Grade 10 math! (he did really well in the math testing they did and he was able to do a math class one grade ahead), and 87 in Geography. It is such an improvement from Cs and Ds. Of course my Dh was telling him how proud he was and Ss went to his bed and cried That put a damper on things. I am still focusing on the positives though.

Wow that is great! This poor kid has been through so much. I feel so bad for all of you! I could not imagine having to deal with it all.
Hey, it should be a lot
Hey, it should be a lot easier for him to improve and recover more, as a smart, educated kid, with some good successes to build him up, than if he couldnt understand or get it, etc.
I think success breeds self esteem and he is improving already. Even he may not know it yet!! So tell him
We tried telling him how
We tried telling him how great it was and how proud we are and told us to shut up
Its passivity. Even the
Its passivity. Even the teachers told us he won't object to anything and just does them. And he is still so upset. Hopefully its acceptance but I', not holding my breath.
