The dog is here!

Oh sweet Jesus, the dog has finally arrived. Ss got himeslf out of bed and went to the shelter after my Dh had to beg him to go. We called ahead and had them put the friendlier dogs out like someone suggested here. We did not want a repeat of last time. That was a great idea. The dogs just flocked to him. I even brough beef jerky to hide in his pocket just in case. But he did not even need that. The difference was amazing. Ss was actually smiling trying to deal with the dogs.

There were quite a few energetic dogs but ss immediately gravitated to a tiny chihuahua. It was a 2 year old female that was not as fragile looking as ther ones the the celebreties carry. She was slightly bigger. She looked more like the male dog from "Beverly Hills Chihuahua". That was a horrible movie I saw with my kids two years ago I think. This dog is the sweetest dog I have ever seen. She instantly bonded with Ss. It brought tears to my eyes to see how quckly they clicked together. The poor thing was abandoned by her owners and had her vocal cords cut. So she makes squeaks whenever she wants to make a sound. I wanted Ss to get another dog that was completely healthy but he was adamant that we get her.

He named her Molly and we were able to get her home yesterday itself. He seemed to have that name already in his mind because he just said it with no hesitation. We thought it was a great name. We have a two week period to see if we have any issues with her. My main concern was how she would be around children. She is already potty trained and can follow basic commands. But once we got home, and my kids went up to her, the precious thing layed down and let them pet her. Ss picked the perfect dog. And Ss is her favourite. She has been following him everwhere. She gives my Dh a bit of an attitude because he was telling Ss to pick another dog in front of her and I think she understood it :). My Dh wanted Ss to get a dog that will make kids approach him and play with the dog together. And I also think he wanted Ss to get a more "macho" dog. But I talked to my Dh and told him to let Ss pick any dog he wants. We had a great time going to Pet Mart getting things for the dog. We let Ss pick everything. He looked so excited.

The dog was a great idea AllMitchell. Thank you! Ss has been more energetic today and walked her around the neighborhood. He usually never wants to leave the house. I wish we had done this sooner. And this dog is so small her poop is tiny. It is great! We are taking her to the vet today and getting her set up and get a thorough check up. I am so excited to see Ss not sleeping in bed the whole day. All my frustrations over the past few weeks seem to have gone. I think I will sleep much better tonight Smile

I am so happy for all of you, nothing like a dog to fix what ails you. I hope this sticks and helps, as a child of abuse myself sometimes we really want to take care of something, it makes us feel usefull, my psychologist says it was because we couldn't take care of ourselves and we need to know we are capable. We had a cat after we left my dad and he helped me so much, I took care of him and got love in return and it just made me feel good.

I'm so happy for you and SS! Having a pup who loves him unconditionally will make great waves in the way of healing, especially since SS is her favorite. I think it's so heart-warming that even though DH wanted a "macho" dog, he didn't let that sway him from getting the dog that speaks to him. Perhaps he relates to the poor pup having her vocal cords taken out. Good luck!

The change in your SS takes my breath away...You and your DH must be over the moon. Hopefully, this is the starting point of SS's return to "life". Smile Smile Smile

We are so happy. Ss has been in his room playing with her the whole time. I even think I heard him laugh Smile I cannot wait to see how much Ss will improve now.

Can you sign them up for obedience school together?
That's a bonding thing between dog and master. Smile
Teaches trust.

YAAAAY! I'm so happy to read this! Dogs are a real life saver, and will love their humans more than anything in the world. Just what your SS needs! It will be good for him to get out to take Molly on regular walks too. And I agree, he probably does feel connected to her due to both having rough pasts. I can't wait to hear more updates! Now I want to go home and hug my dog!

There is nothing in the world like a dog. I have 5 and 4 of them are Chihuahuas. (The other is a wolfhound - they look so funny together!) I am so happy for both your SS and Molly - it sounds like they were made for each other. And thank you so much for going to a rescue rather than buying a dog! Rescue pups are the best!!!!
