Talking about food reminds my of a conversation about food with dh

nunya1983's picture

OK I'm going to make a list and I'd like you to tell me if you'd consider it a veggie or a starch. I'm going to list random "veggies", tell me if you consider them veggies, and if you'd accept them to be the only veggie for a meal.

Peas

Green beans

Corn

Sweet potatoes

Potatoes

Broccoli

Baked beans

First time I read your comment I read it as you calling them hilarious! I am laughing so hard at myself right now!

The ones you buy in the store, in a bag like potato chips? No. It *sounds* better than potato chips, but it's not. Smile

Peas -starch but I love them so yes they could be the only veg that meal!
Green Beans- Veg, yes
Corn- Starch, NO
Sweet Potatoes- Starch but better than white potatoes, NO
Potatoes- KING OF THE STARCHES- No
Broccoli- Veg, yes
Baked Beans- Starch and sugar, does anyone actually eat these? I thought they were for decoration.

THAT IS BLASPHEMOUS!

baked beans are the SHIZZZZNIT!!!!! u probably just never had them done right!!!!

there's only one joint around here where i'll eat their beans - otherwise i'll only eat MINE. the last two times i made them for work holiday parties, they were the first thing GONE.

Next time I let SO and PPP eat those disgusting things I am bottling their farts and sending it to you. They are toxic evil things made to torture me and my families digestive systems.

Green beans AND peas are the devil! Give me asparagus, broccoli, spinach, or brussel sprouts.

AllySkoo's picture

At least from that list, I consider the green ones veggies and the others starches:
Veggies:
Peas
Green beans
Broccoli

Starches:
Corn
Sweet potatoes
Potatoes
Baked beans

I love corn and sweet potatoes but asparagus is my favorite even though it wasn't on the list! LOL Or brussel sprouts...

oh hun u dont know what u're missing out on!!!! cheese is my largest food group!!!!!

although, i'm sure you could just as easily use goat cheese or feta, or thin slicings of parmesan.

Tuff Noogies's picture

ya know, echo, i've never actually HAD that.... yet. }:) but i'm sure i'd lurrrrve it.

the ONLY cheese i wont touch is cottage. that shit ain't real cheese, more like pre-cheese.

soooo, ok u can have the asparagus w/ shavings of parmesan or pecorino, like done w/ a veggie peeler?

Tuff, my DH and I love cheese!! We have 2 cheese places in Wisconsin that we LOVE and we order from them a lot. Some nights we have a variety of cheese, crackers, and either sausage or some local smoked trout or salmon. With wine, of course!

Tuff Noogies's picture

that sounds like a fantastic date!!!

dh doesnt buy me cards or flowers or trinkets. he brings me special cheese. he stumbled upon one once that totally rocked my world - cambozola. OMG i was in heaven. he got whatever he wanted that evening Blum 3 }:) }:)

evil - try this -

fresh, roasted garlic, spread on a thin crostini, topped with a good layer of goat cheese and a schmear of basil pesto.

**drooling**

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Tuff, try some crostinis with...

A layer of whipped cream cheese (or goat cheese)
A layer of sundried tomato spread
A layer of pesto
Chopped black olives

Yes I am so with you on this. I love crumbled bleu cheese on a fresh cobb salad with bleu cheese dressing. Or dip your super hot chicken wings in bleu cheese oh man now I want hot wings!

Tuff Noogies's picture

blue cheese burger with bacon and avocado...... mmmmmmmm

or blue cheese on a crostini with a bit of guava paste....

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Echo, I'll keep my bacon so long as it is On The Side and cooked CRISPY. That's a whole 'nother animal. So many people I know cook the burger with the bacon and it's....flabby.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I heart brussel sprouts!! DH absolutely LOATHES them - the smell makes him sick! I can only have brussel sprouts if I take them to work or eat out without DH.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Echo, the smell alone makes him gag. I'm not allowed to cook them in the house.

Try them roasted with some red pepper flakes!! Nom nom nom...

About how long? I want to try these. Love veggies but never Brussel sprouts- only had the frozen then boiled kind growing up.

EvilAngel's picture

I like fresh ones with red onions tossed in oil olive and balsamic vinegar then roasted!

Tuff Noogies's picture

i grew up eating meals that were meat, mashed potatoes, and a vegg. any of the above veggies were options. but we rotated 'em around, so we didnt have potatoes and corn all the time, but swapped the court out with brocc, grean beans, peas, frozen medleys so at least there was variety of nutrients.

nunya1983's picture

Peas- I do consider this a veggie, but I won't accept this as the line veggie at the meal

Green beans- veggie, I will only accept this as the lounge veggie at the meal if it is fresh and not out of a can, all the nutrients are soaked out of it.

Corn- starch, not a veggie

Sweet potatoes- veggie, but also a starch, I will not accept this as the lone veggie

Potatoes- starch, not a veggie, I don't even want these served on my table

Broccoli- yummy yummy veggie! I love it! I love it raw, I love it steamed, I love it site fried, I love it sautéed, I love it baked crisp in the oven like a "chip"

Baked beans- starch, I do like them, but I need a veggie!

I also love asparagus, Brussel sprouts, artichoke, spinach, kale

Baked beans

nunya1983's picture

Oh and for the veggie straws, I do not consist them any better than chips, except if you make them like how was mentioned here!
