Yes Crazy MIL, Please Give Us Chicken Pox
My MIL is crazy, we all know that but weird, it's like crazy MIL season over here.
So DH and I took an overnight trip with BD to another state due to him having to take a proctored final exam for one of his master's courses. MIL didn't know about this trip (I mean, it's overnight, and we don't tell our parents every little thing that goes on in our life.)
MIL also has shingles and had it for the last week and a half. Her shingles has not cleared up yet and she was given a new prescription yesterday because it's starting to flare up again. Because of this, we haven't seen her in two weeks, as even if you've already had the chicken pox vaccine/chicken pox (like BD3 and me, respectively) you'll still get it, just a milder form.
I'm also 8.5 months pregnant, so my immune system is not exactly in tip top shape so as not to reject the baby. I don't know what I'd get if I came into contact with her, even though I've had the chicken pox before. Herpes zoster virus can damage the baby--I don't know to what extent, obviously, but there's a reason why people with shingles are advised to stay at home and away from people to prevent passing it to immunocompromised individuals.
Guess who, after ringing the doorbell a couple of times, apparently came into our backyard (which is FENCED and a rope is tied around the fence since my locking mechanism isn't working) and was looking into our patio door which sees into our kitchen, dining, and living room, to see if we were home or not (it's kind of funny, I actually have this on video because we set up a surveillance system and seeing her press her face against the glass was a bit disconcerting) and then placed a bag of DH's junk mail (he still has some weird stuff going to her house) against the door. This is during a time where she knows I am usually home and DH is at work.
She then left and called ME, not DH, despite being told by DH that if she needs anything, to contact him, letting me know she still has the shingles and just wanted to know how BD was doing.
Uhh.
My parents don't even drop by unannounced and they used to OWN this house. They'll call me before hand and ask if it's okay if they leave something by the door if they have to.
If I was home, did she think I was going to open the freakin' door to a person with shingles?!?!? And quite honestly, junk mail can wait. I don't THINK the virus can be transferred by touching something a person with the virus has touched because then I'm fucked as I brought the bag in wondering what kind of person left it--we installed the surveillance system because something or someone had been going through my garden and it didn't dawn on me the bag could be from MIL.
DH is furious, for obvious reasons. I think she's crossing into stalker territory.

Shingles near pregnant lady.
Shingles near pregnant lady. NO
And what's funny is that she
And what's funny is that she was the one who said we shouldn't go to her house so I don't catch it.
So... you come to mine?
We might spend a bit extra to
We might spend a bit extra to get it hooked up so it notifies the cops immediately and they'll come see. Now the question is whether we should warn her or just let it be a surprise.
Lol wow, and I thought my MIL
Lol wow, and I thought my MIL was crazy, but yours is too!!
I would have paid to see your face as you were watching the surveillance video lol!
"OMG WE ACTUALLY HAVE SOMEONE
"OMG WE ACTUALLY HAVE SOMEONE GOING THROUGH MY GARD--wait. Is that... is that your mom? ...yep. It's her."
So our house situation is
So our house situation is pretty much the same--they come up to the sliding glass door to look inside.
I'm sorry about the dogs--I would HATE it if someone came and taunted my dogs (I don't have any right now but used to.)
Sorry, the immunologist in me
Sorry, the immunologist in me had to address this: "I'm also 8.5 months pregnant, so my immune system is not exactly in tip top shape so as not to reject the baby." That's not actually true. Your immune system is modulated not suppressed, common misconception.
Otherwise, you're right whoa that's crazy.
Thanks for clearing this up!
Thanks for clearing this up! I always thought it meant we were more susceptible to catching stuff since it's what those websites like to say (I caught the flu with my first one and it was unlike any flu I have ever caught before--lasted almost 3 weeks).
My mom even freaked out because once, she was helping her mom (my grandma) when my grandma had the shingles and somehow got it in her EYE. She almost went blind despite having had the chicken pox as a kid (she thought she was immune because of having it as a kid.)
