I was listening to the radio yesterday and someone mentioned the film 'Sound of Music'. They talked about the family and the 'wicked stepmother ' character of the baroness he was engaged to marry and it suddenly dawned on me: SD then 13/14 was crazy about that film. She would watch it obsessively over and over. SD took to throwing me a lot of black looks and stares and I remember we were at a family gathering and the film was on again in the back of the room where the kids were. She was throwing me her looks. This was when SD was about13-16 years old that she had a thing for this film.

I had never really paid attention to it but SD was very high on the 'Mini Wife' scale. I now think that she was watching this film and seeing the potential stepmother being ousted and the father realising how much he loved Maria and her 'winning' by him marrying her. The fantasy of him rejecting the stepmother (me) and realising he loved Maria  (her) more must have been convincing to her.

She did everything she possibly could to get DH to turn against me and even demanded in an email at a later date that he divorce me, saying that she would have nothing to do with him every again unless he show me the door. I always wondered what was the great attraction of that film for her and I now think I know.
