Bothersome question by SD10. What the.....

So, SD has caught the flu...again. She had to stay home this morning because of a 102 temp. Yesterday, she only had a slight fever after school and I could tell she wasn't well, so I went into the bathroom and came out with the typical looking white digital thermometer. She was in her room with DD and I said "we need to take your temp,I need to make sure it's not too high" SD10 ...yes TEN....Says..."Ummm, yeah, where does that go?!?!" I said "in your mouth, under your tongue...Why?" She just looks relieved and says "Oh Ok, No reason" WHAT THE F???

There are several different ways to take a temperature. During infancy, it's normal to use their bottom. As they get a little older, you can buy an ear thermometer or use it under their arm pit.

Just her having the idea that I was going to put it anywhere Other than her mouth made me wonder what the hell BM does!!!! Really, is BM still doing it that way at 7,8, or even 9 years old?! That is the only thing I can think of regarding SD's comment. Even DH said that BM probably did it that way because shes bat shit crazy! It really bothered me.

On a side note...Why the hell is SD10 always sick? This year hasnt been too bad, this is the first time shes been sick this year, and it's the first year BM hasnt been around much at all. I really think thats connected somehow. Either because BM didn't take care of SD, didnt make her stay warm or eat healthy foods..or it's because when SD did get sick, BM didnt help her get better or ever take her to the doc, so her cold/flu just got worse. I'm not sure.

I had to laugh because DH teases the kids (DD10 and SD15 and BD3) all the time saying if they get sick around grammy she takes the temp the old fashioned way and the kids look horrified and run away. He has been telling them this for years as a joke. We left to go on our honeymoon when my daughter was 6 and left the kids with his mother (grammy) My daughter got sick and had a 102 temp. When we got back she said she was so scared to tell anyone she was sick because of what he told her!! Poor kid, I felt so bad. Or course his mother realized the kid was sick and did not put it up her butt and she has no idea he teases the kids and tells them that.

As far as being sick alot my DD10 has been sick so many times this school year!! She eats really well, dresses appropriately and I have no idea why she keeps getting this horrible cold. Then she gives it to BD3. She actually already missed about 5 days of school since September because she keeps getting sick. She must be picking it up from the kids at school or maybe BD3 because she is in preschool 2 days a week.
