OT:run your own daycare?

Anyone here have their own daycare? I'm considering starting my own. I've been gathering information about my states regulations. I'd also like to hear your experiences. My goal is an in home set up with 2 assistants.

I've never run one myself, but I helped my sister get one set up in her home. She didn't have any assistants so she was limited in the number of kids she could have. Any kids living in your home typically count towards that total number.

She liked it at first. But after a few years, she felt like she had lost her home to the business. People need flexible hours, so she was getting up by 6am and keeping kids until almost 6:30pm some nights. Vacations are less flexible, sick time is extremely difficult. You can write all of that stuff into your contract, but if your customers aren't happy with your service, they'll find somewhere new to go.

Some of that may go away with assistants though. She gave it up after 5 years and went back into the workforce.

Good luck to you!
