It's a small thing, but when has that ever stopped me from dropping the hammer?
Monday I forgot to lay anything out for dinner. The whole day was a ripper. My three year old had been sick for a few days fighting an ear infection. My 1 year old had seasonal allergies. I work from home. I'll leave my productivity level to your imagination.
DH gets home from work. Both my boys are done with homework. Older girls are doing homework at the table. Both babies are napping. I say to DH "I'm going to go to the grocery store one a few blocks away and I'm going to pick up dinner. Would you like fried chicken or Oriental Express from the deli?" All the kids chimed in with "Chinese food!!! Yay!" Except SD6, who crossed her arms and stuck he lip out and said "I don't WAAAAANT Chinese food. I WAAAAAANT chicken!" I said loud and clear "Okay, we're going to have to go with the popular vote, we're only getting one thing. So...Chinese food it is." End of story.
DH got in the deli line to get the Chinese food while I took a cart around the store to pick up the rest of the stuff we needed. Some 2 liter bottles of pop in kid flavors (something they only get as a treat, about like Chinese food) and a dessert from the bakery. Also got a watermelon to go with dinner.
I got home and was taking all the food out of the bag, and found a little bag of chicken strips and potatoes from the deli. DH went ahead and got SD6 the chicken anyway, even though she's got ODD and he knows this is just a control issue with her...mealtime always is. I didn't say a word. Not the hill I care to die on.
My DD9 is sensitive to food dye. The sodas I had chosen were raspberry, root beer, orange, and a ginger ale. DH asked everyone what kind of drink they wanted. They answered. DD9 asked for ginger ale. DH said "DD9, the ginger ale is for your sister who is sick, you'll have to have Raspberry." She said "I can't have that, dad, it's got food dye in it. It makes me sick, remember?" He looked right at me and said "I don't know why she can't just go with the flow for once." and started to hand her red soda. I said "Oh, probably because she sees you do "special precious" for SD6 all the time, so she really doesn't get why she should go with the flow, since that's obviously not the family mission statement here."
Dumbass. And then I poured her some Ginger Ale.

Tell him the "flow" she might
Tell him the "flow" she might go with if she gets sick will not be pleasant. And I'd make him clean it up.
Ridiculous. He asked what
Ridiculous. He asked what kind of soda she wanted...she answered. Even if she didn't have a medical reason for her choice...why on earth couldn't she choose? The. After she reminds him about her medical condition, he still tries to force the red soda on her? That's unbelievable not ten minutes after he bought his daughter a whole special dinner.
"I don't know why she can't
"I don't know why she can't just go with the flow for once."
Go with the fricking flow? Is he stupid? She gets sick from food dyes. She's not being goddamn picky.
What a jackass.
I don't think it's a small
I don't think it's a small thing. Good grief. Deliberately give a kid something that will make her ill...yowza.
Wow, what a dick. Sorry, but
Wow, what a dick. Sorry, but if he was willing to give her something that he KNEW would make her sick just to make his point, he's an ass.
What a dick! I would've
What a dick! I would've grabbed that chicken and potatoes and launched it straight into the rubbish bin. Then I would've blown the living shit out of him for his double standards. Also would've continued reading him the riot act and gone on and on about how he could've DELIBERATELY made her ill if she drank that rasberry drink. THEN I would've told him that SD6 will damn well "go with the flow" and would bloody well eat chinese or she could ahve hot shit on toast.
For real - What. a. major. asshole.
