They get on my nerves.
DH and BM that is...
SS has been effing around all year in school and is now scrambling to make good grades in order to pass. We got a letter last night saying that basically SS needs to make an A in social studies to pass for the year. DH called BM to let her know what was going on and she blamed the teachers and the school. She told DH that she feels the class size is too big at the school and he needs more individualized attention.
Okay sea donkey-
1. I pulled strings with a friend 3 years ago to get SS into a very prestigious private school with a full scholarship where the class size at the time was 8:1 and right now the student to teacher ratio is 10:1. (SS's school is 13:1, school in her district 18:1)but you fought it- took it all the way to court and then claimed that since the religion of the school(Episcopalian) didn't match your religion (Baptist) you were against it and heaven forbid the court should have to deal with a religious thing.
2. You said you were okay with him failing school as long as he was HAPPY! Well he's happy!
3. It is not the teacher or the school's fault it is your fault for not staying on him and DH's fault for not getting in the game until the end of the 3 marking period (there's 4 marking periods per year)
4. SS is not stupid and does not need individualized attention. He is lazy. He CHOOSES not to do his work or in some cases just doesn't turn it in. He needs someone to MAKE him do it.
DH was ranting and raving about it and I said that I didn't think that summer school should be an option. He is failing because he is lazy. Plus DH should have been more proactive but he wasn't. I couldn't do it by myself because I AM NOT THE PARENT! Right now SS has an A so as long as he keeps it he will be fine. We compromised. People make mistakes. If he does totally tank the last few weeks of school and fails social studies, we will pay for summer school. If he pulls the same crap again and fails another grade he will repeat the grade.
I'm hoping the very official letter we received will scare the crap out of him and he continues to study and do his work and turn it in.
This is horrible but part of me hopes that SS fails. The reason being is because he doesn't think anything bad will ever happen to him. He's not a bad kid so he doesn't get in trouble a lot. I think it's an important lesson. Is that mean?

Nope.
Nope.
It would be better for it to
It would be better for it to happen now than later.
