Ex-Husband and Child Support
Last week, I received a notice from child support enforcement that said I have a meeting at so and so date and time to discuss a matter that is under investigation. The state that I live in has been pushing for child support to be deducted from NCP's paycheck no matter what the terms. I do not agree with this. My EX and I have worked things out for 3 plus years now and it works for us. I do not want to hand this over to their office because they are horrible about being late with payments, losing payments, etc. I do not receive any welfare benefits and therefore, I believe it is none of their business. I hate the government interfering. Also, I am in the middle of something for my school and won't finish up til December. I lost all my extra days because of Hurricane Isaac. If I miss anymore, I'll have to make them up. This is ridiculous. The letter doesn't even tell me exactly what it's about and that it's confidential. I love how they just set a random date and assume it's OK. I guess this is just a vent. How much you want to bet that when I call Monday morning saying I can't make it and what's about? They are going to say I HAVE to come in.

In my state (MI) as long as
In my state (MI) as long as the kid isn't receiving state entitlements, the state cannot force a Friend of Court case to be opened in regards to child support, visitation, etc.
My exH and I co-parented our child together. We never opened a Friend of the Court case - there was no need. We just took care of our kid together.
That did NOT stop the state/county from sending me letters informing me of my right to have child support ordered and handled by the state.
Uh, no thanks. Like you, I don't need, nor do I want, the government involved in my life on that level.
On another note: child support is BIG business for states/counties. They make a lot of money off of it. Just so you know. I would check into your rights and suggest that if you don't have to get them involved, then don't. Just my opinion.
Good luck!
