I have a myspace account and I have worked min wage jobs. As a single mother I worked any job I could get to support my family. Right now in this economy there are plenty of educated, professional people who would be grateful for any type of employment. It saddens and disgusts me that there are people who think they are better than the cashier at the grocery store or the waitress that takes their order at a restaurant.

Or maybe I missed something ''bigger'' going on with the posts on here, but I don't see anything wrong with either of these two things.

Re: being a waitress or a cashier...there is nothing wrong in doing ANY job when you are working to support your family. I have a lot more respect for these people than for the people who simply sit on their asses, waiting for a government hand-out (or wait for their ex-spouse to hand over a large CS support check for them to live on- yeah, I'm talkin to YOU, BM!!)

And PS, Ferret- I was thinking of you yesterday, as I was in Church. During the Easter Season, the priest walks down the aisle and does a 'sprinkling rite' with holy water and blesses the congregation. Well this new, young priest was quite vigorous with his sprinkling and I got SOAKED because I was on the end. Everyone seated on the end was wiping their glasses and using tissues to dab the water away. The lady in front of me was totally PO'd because he wet her makeup! So, you immediately popped into my head!! (See, I told you it even ticks us Catholics off!!) Wink

I've been that waitress. I have Myspace. Also Facebook. I've been a bartender in a restaurant. I'm educated and have many job skills, but when you can't find anything else, you do what you must to survive.

I have the utmost respect for those who work their rear ends off in low paying jobs.

Check out the myspace forum. You'll see what got me ticked off. At one time I worked as a sales associate at Belk's during the day and a waitress at a diner 3 nights a week. Most of us have worked crappy jobs to support our families. At one restaurant I worked there were at least 3 teachers who worked there evenings and weekends just to get by.

Are you saying myspace has not brought you the respect you deserve ? thats what it sounds like your saying.
Some people really get into social networking sites and some ( like my stepdaughter ) make it a hobby to collect online friends. SD has something like 500 online friends, you would think with all those friends she would have someone to talk to rather than come over crying she has no one to talk to.
lol

I never said that. I was referring to the forum on this site and remarks that were made there by certain people on this site. I set up my myspace account to connect with people interested in the same things as me. Right now I'm connected with a person from my home state that is also into animal rights and pet fostering. It's a nation wide network that finds good homes for abandoned, abused and neglected pets. But I'm sure it's nothing you would be interested in TK seeing as how we're uneducated, unprofessional, minimum wage earning nothings.

TINAKAY's BS about myspace. I totally agree with you!!!!

Each one of her comments in that Myspace forum were very annoying, lacking logic and plain dumb. Smile

ferretmom's picture

Not to mention rude, misinformed, snobbish, elitist etc etc etc.

and I am a professional woman, although i did have a job at Burger King and Shoneys and respect waitress/cashiers and other hard working peoples,
I have a myspace because
A> my sons had one and when they were at their dads, we could chat without dumbass listening in,
B. cuz I met some wonderful women on this site who wanted to get to know me better.
C. I caught up with people from school I have missed.
I am NOT ashamed of it.

The various rescue groups have websites and when the perspective new pet parents need more information I have them contact me through my myspace page. I don't give out my private e-mail or phone number. It also helps most of us stay informed on fundraisers and emergencies. I had planned on using my page to help inform anyone who was interested that we are out there. There a hundreds of animal issues that most of the public aren't aware of. It's a fine line between informing and preaching. Plus it helps me keep in touch with other eco and environmental groups. A lot of the animals that we find homes for are across the country so we have to find transportation for them. It's a lot of work but sooo worth it to give some poor furrbaby their forever home.

SBH I worked at BK and Shoney's also. Great tips but I don't miss the long hours and my feet killing me.

sarahbernheart's picture

the great thing about Shoney's was the brownie with ice cream desert, I used work the late shift and we would have one of those before the kitchen shut down..

but you are right it was hard on the dogs..

I have a Facebook page and I recently joined Twitter (I actually figured it out!)

Does that qualify me as classless, too?? :?

"Of course things worked out nicely for Carol Brady...she had a live-in maid and Mike's first wife was DEAD!"

Gia's picture

unfortunately your name DOES appear next to the definition of classless in TinaKay's Encyclopedia. :O

sarahbernheart's picture

a lot of us will be right there with 5T in her encyclopedia and if so I couldnt be in better company!!

So now having a Facebook /MySpace is classless? I missed that memo.

And I guess I also missed the one about waitresses and sales people.

I'll tell you what, I made a killing waiting tables. I've been trying to find a waitress job for after work so I can make some extra money. Since when did working hard make you a lesser person? I worked retail for about 5 years too. More power to people that deal with the assholes of the general public.

My friend. You are one classy lady whether you have a Myspace, FB or Dog and Pony account. What you choose to do with YOUR life and time is YOUR business. I would not give any creed to the ignorant comments made. Some people are shallow and I think probably borderline on having deeper issues, but that is my opinion. It is classless to try and belittle people who do not agree with you or view things the way you do. I personally think that those very attributes make us all unique individuals and try not to formulate an opinon about the masses based on one misguided individual. I believe some people like to hear themselves speak to seem every so SMRT (on purpose - Homer Simpson touts that he is S-M-R-T). I don't think they ever give creed to the fact that we all bring different things to the table and we should be mindful and respectful of that.

So, my dear friend don't fret the small stuff or the even smaller people. Continue to do the good that you do without giving credence to those that think otherwise.

Principlist.... You always word things so well.

I myself have been doing the posting equivalent of biting my tongue, since first instinct was to rip someone a new one.

I've made some fantastic friends here and have gotten to know them better through MySpace and Facebook. If we're all without class in some peoples eyes, then so be it. We all know better, we all know the truth, and we all know what we see in the mirror. Others just don't get it, don't see the truth about themselves and never will. They're not worth our time.

I personally feel that if this person carries the same venom and ignorance into her relationship with her SKIDS its no wonder they have a screwed up view of her. Hell I'm not even her SK, but I think less of her based on a few ignorant comments she has made. One directed at me on one of my blogs that did not agree with her assessment of the situation. So, I've summed it up and stuck her in the UFO pile...you know the one that holds the Idiot sightings.

DISNEY LIED...THERE IS NO 'HAPPILY EVER AFTER'

I've been working since I was 16 and had several different types of jobs and let me tell you, waitressing was one of the hardest jobs I ever did - it requires alot of patience, strength and common sense...you work your butt off and put up with a lot of crap from the public. Several years ago I was working in a nice, cushy office position from 6-3 and from 4-10 I was waitressing - I made great tips, but man, did I ever bust my butt to earn them! I was making more waitressing in 2-3 evenings than at my office job's weekly salary - but I was about half dead, too. I have nothing but total respect for anyone who chooses this profession and is dedicated to doing a good job.

I also have a myspace page - it's used for communication with my friends and family - and I'm proud to have Ferretmom on there as one of friends! If anyone else would like to join me on myspace, send me a pm and I'll send you the link!

I thought I was the only one who was very annoyed at her response.

WowjustWow's picture

I just find it personally offensive to lump me, Grandma, my cousins, my old college roommate, my husband, my step daughter, etc etc. in the category of "criminals and mindless idiots"

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but to be so ugly to people is just sad. That's like me saying "Ferretmom, I think everyone who loves animals is dumb" Come on!

I'm glad I grew up in a family that taught tollerance and equality of all people and to not be small minded when it comes to others.

I have a myspace..and a facebook. I don't really stay on top of facebook. I found my oldest friend from highschool that I have searched for YEARS...via the internet on myspace last year.

I have a college degree..work in Corporate Finance for one of Boston's top 10 companies..but I also worked as a waitress part time when my EH and I first divorced to get back on track. I actually made MORE $$ waitressing than I did at my regular job back than.

I'm such a scum bag, I used to waitress, I was a gas station attendant, I was a telemarketer for a minute there too! Yes, I got low skill jobs to pay my bills, what an asshole that makes me. Yet I too have a college degree (graduated with a 4.0 incidentally) and my friend who invited me to join facebook just won a grammy. Through that I have reconnected with many of my old friends from high school, (which was one of the best high schools in MA, btw) many of whom have gone on to be engineers, professors, etc.

But it took some nameless, faceless person on steptalk to point out to be how ignorant I truly am for wanting to stay connected to people I actually know, and WORSE, to get to want to know better the MANY wonderful people on steptalk who have supported me in tough times.

I really respond best to abuse and insult, so clearly, this was the way to make her point. I feel so enlightened. Wink

My H has had a subscription to PC World for a few years now. I went back and looked through all the old issues, yes I save them, and could not find one thing bashing myspace. Maybe it's a site for all us Rednecks.
