I am really mad!
When I got home last night the house was really quiet. SS10, we'll call him Harry, (So I like Harry Potter, sue me) , was doing his chores and Severus (SS12) was no where to be seen. I went outside to talk to DH and DH told me Severus was grounded for a week. Not surprising but I asked what he did. Turns out he took his $300 Nintendo DS to daycamp and gave it to a "friend" to keep in his backpack. Keep in mind, he has known this kid a total of 7 days. I don't think a week is long enough.
The phone number the kid gave turns out to be fake and that kid convienantly forgot to bring his back pack to day camp today. Anybody want to place a bet on if we ever see it again?
Just a tiny vent here (and I won't say this to DH) but I told you so!!!!!! I told DH not to get Severus the DS for Xmas. I told him that he doesn't keep track of his things and doesn't care to keep them in good shape. DH over rode me and got it for him anyway because Harry had gotten a PSP (that he earned with good behavior).
We both told Severus that under no circumstance was he to take the DS to camp. So yesterday he snuck it in his shorts pocket so DH wouldn't notice. What? Do we have to search him every morning now? When I asked him why he disobeyed us he said in tears "Because there's nothing to do at camp." What a load of bull!!!!!! $180/week/kid and there's nothing to do...Really!? I could feel my hands slowly wrapping around his neck.
I also asked why he would give a stranger an expensive item like that and he said because this kid was his friend. I did have to tell him apparently not, if he takes your stuff and gives you a fake phone number he is probably not your friend.
So my solution is to let him work it off. He can do additional chores around the house and property and we will pay him minimum wage. Maybe he will figure out the value of things if he has to actually put in the hours of work to pay for it. And no, he does not get to use my salary. Start at the bottom where I did!
DH's solution is if he doesn't get it back he is grounded for 2 weeks. Doesn't seem like enough to me!

Ha!
That's a familiar story.
SS8 did the same exact thing last year, just about.
FH had gotten him a DS for christmas in '07 and last fall, SS8 decided he didn't want a DS anymore. So he gave it to some kid in the neighborhood and told FH it was stolen from him at school!! Thing is, I took SS8 to BW's house everyday before school and he never once had it with him. He always played with it at the house.
So anyways....(it gets better)
SS8 had asked IL's to get him a new one for christmas (we explained why we don't want him to have one, and they didn't get him one...they got him a $1200 4 wheeler instead....oy vey)
So anyways, he was still asking for one, up until a couple of weeks before his bday in April. We still said no because we don't believe he deserves it. Sorry, you had one and you gave it away and then lied about what happened to it.
So anyways, SS8 was at his Nanny's house one evening about a week before his bday. FH went to pick him up and when he got in the car, he noticed SS8 had drum sticks in his book bag. So he asked where he got those from and SS8 said "From Aunt Jaci" (his nanny has two kids that are around the same age as him like 11 and 14...yeah, its weird) so FH was like "Whatever" and didn't think much of it. Well on their way home, SS8 pulls out this black DS from his pocket and starts playing it. FH was like WTF!!! Where did you get that? And SS8 said that Aunt Jaci gave it to him as well. FH started to suspect something was up. So he asked, "Are you sure" and SS8 of course said "Yeeeeeeeeees!!!" (in the pissed off, leave me alone, tone).
So they get home and not 10 minutes after they got home, the phone rang.
It was BW. "Did SS8 have some drum sticks in his bag?", FH "Yeah, he said Aunt Jaci gave them to him for his bday"
BM "No, those are his Uncle Dewey's". "And does he have a video game thing, a DS?"
FH "Yeah". BM "Its black and has a Tony Hawk game in it"
FH "Yes"..... BM "Well, that's Uncle Dewey's too. He said his stuff was missing after SS8 left"....
So. Caught in a lie. Stealing. And then getting uppity about being questioned if he was telling the truth.
And what happened? 5 minutes in the time out chair (which I think he maybe only did 2 of) and made to "appologize" to his uncle, which I don't think he ever did.
It still pisses me off when I think about it. Cause I didn't find out about it until like 4 days later when the three of us were out at dinner and that kid showed NO REMORSE for stealing and lying. None.
Grrrr! Little SHIT!
He didn't even try to use
the "I forgot" tactic with me. I think he was scared I'd go nuclear. Who me? }:-) He actually admitted that he snuck it out so he could take it to camp. So in that respect, a step forward. He knows I don't buy that "forgetting" BS.
Hope DH keeps that in mind
Next time he wants to buy SS an expensive gift.
