BM doesn't require them to buckle up. I'm beginning to see why!!!!!!!! Seriously tho what 8 year old and 13 year old doesn't just belt in without being asked to?! AND 8 year old cries when you enforce it. If I'm driving they ARE belted in. Period. Cry I don't care! When DH is driving, we clearly take our chances.

my autistic 5 year old knows to put his seatbelt on and does it himself. I always check to make sure, and it's always done. those kids are just being defiant brats. I would make them do it or not take them anywhere, because that's an expensive ticket.

Thank you! Seriously I don't "get" this at all. Maybe we should let them start smoking. Cause you know, they want to. Ugh.

I have explained to EVERYONE that it's against the law & the ticket is endangering the life of a child. And it can be an arresting offense, if the officer chooses. I have ALWAYS had my kids buckle. Not an option. This blows my mind. But both bio and DH have a hard time enforcing ANYTHING. DH recently has committed to better. But it's new.

Hell I told the kids mine included when they were tiny seat belts on or you go to jail it's against the law to not be in a car-seat and/or buckled up. I've whipped to the side of the road shut of the car and refused to move until the undone seat belt was re-done. Here it's 500$ fine the first time 1500$ jail time or a suspended license for an unsecured (and properly car-seat booster etc)minor.

Did I miss something here? Now, what you do if your children refuse to wear a seatbelt is... You get a grip. You MAKE them belt up. This is because, guess what, YOU are the PARENT. I don't care if they don't like it. I don't care if they whinge or cry. I don't care if they throw the epic mother of all tantrums. In the car? Seatbelts on. No excuses.
Never mind the posible fines. A child in the rear seat with no belt can go through the windscreen in the event of a crash, and it doesn't take much speed either. Do these parents REALLY want to be scraping their child's remains of the road???
My nephew (about 2 at the time) thought it would be funny once to undo his car restraint while driving. The first time, my brother said NO very firmly, and belted him in again. The second time he tried, my brother pulled over and slapped his hands, hard. He cried for a while and never did it again. My brother is a great dad and loves his son dearly. Better slapped hands than a dead child, or one disabled for life.
I'm sorry, but parents who don't put seatbelts etc on their children are stupid idiots.

You'd better believe it... In our family it goes something like this: "Kid, I love you deeply, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm your parent, not your friend. This means I will sometimes not be popular. I can live with that, and as for you... You'll survive!"

:jawdrop:

I am floored at why some people even have children if they will not even keep them safe.

Tell your FH "Better the kids cry for 10 minutes, than you cry for the rest of your life because you lost them through not having the guts to be a parent".

Honestly, if you did crash and one of the kids was badly hurt because of not wearing a seatbelt, how would he live with himself afterwards?
