I "reminded" GG that he signed the paperwork way back when (when he was in the "give the Behemoth everything she wants and JUST LIVE OFF Auteur" mode) that he is responsible for 50% of college costs for the three MacArthur Genius Grant recipients.

He said "oh no, I'm not gonna pay it!"

What kind of f'n FANTASY land is he LIVING IN??!! Just because he didn't READ any of the documents he SIGNED during the divorce, (despite my urging him to do so) essentially signing his life away as one attorney puts it, he thinks it will be null and void just because he wishes it to be so?? Or that the Behemoth will somehow experience a lightning hit while driving down to one of their many, many vacations and suddenly become charitable, simply letting GG off the hook for said college funds???!!!

And the Behemoth is already:

1. getting a salary similar to mine for fewer hours
2. using her husband's salary which is twice as much as mine
3. getting 12K in CS even though GG's salary is less than Behemoth's
4. most likely getting SSI/SSD payments for Venus' "learning disability" (aka L.O.B. Lack of Belt)
5. getting foster parent income for the 15 yr old that they are fostering

With greed like this what makes you think she won't try to get 200% of the college funds out of GG??

Believe me they let EVERYONE into college nowadays. EVERYONE!! I see some of the stupidest people on earth (twentysomethings with bachelors degrees and up) walk this earth. Same people that are texting and walk into a hole in the street. It's all just a money maker for the colleges. They're hoping the "students" WILL fail and WILL continue to keep paying them in hopes that they'll graduate. AND because everything has been dumbed down so much, college is like a "bench warmer's club" as long as you say you paid (tuition) to play (get a job) you're in.

Oh, they WILL be going to college, except that they'll fail every semester and it will take at least six years to graduate, in which GG will be expected to continue to pay 50% of costs.

I had this HUGE argument with this guy in my office about kids and college. He felt parents were 100% responsible for paying for school - regardless of the cost. When I went to school my parents did what they could (there were 3 of us in college at the same time) but I had to take out loans. Granted schools are much more expensive these days but why is all the burden on the parents? Where are kids? Why are they not part of figuring out how to pay for this?

So maddening to me.

NO WAY could I afford college for Awesomeson and Peg. They, like myself do not have a college degree. That's just the hard fact of being a TRUE single parent mom back in the eighties when their were no MANDATES on CS and the biodad paying college.

6 years = mega bucks. My mistake was I didn't have it in my divorce decree so I had to foot bill for DD 100% due to her "grades" after 1st semester. Boy if I only knew that exH would cut her off lickadee split I would have gone for so much more OR maybe I should have changed my spots too and let DD find her own way at 18? My experience is, college lets "marginal" students continue for as long as payment is rec'd. And I'd bet students paying for themselves don't take as long to graduate & have better GPA than those being supported by their parents, i.e. having safety parachute fully loaded.
