tricks for getting kids to eat

Does anyone have any tricks for getting a kid to eat/try new things??
SD5 refuses to try new things (even if its got all the stuff she likes)
When we get her something to eat that she asks for, she might eat a couple bites at best...but she always have room for junk (which we stopped giving her unless she eats a good amount of her meal)

i'm getting tired of making 2 meals for every meal, and she barley eats what i make just for her as it is...such a waste we don't have that kind of money to waste like that! :/

I refuse to cook two meals, always have. My kids know they either eat what we are having, or they get a bowl of cereal. I know some people don't agree with the cereal out, but I'd rather them have cereal than to sneak down later and eat junk. The skids OTOH, will just refuse to eat, even if it's something they ate before/requested to have/said they like, and daaadddyyyy will fix them something else. I just let it go now, what they refuse to eat, I eat for lunch the next day. It's his problem to deal with, and he doesn't think it's a problem.

I wish I knew the answer to this! My sons are both very picky. They are 4 and 3. I used to make what they like, but sometimes they get picky over that as well. And yes, they always have room for junk food which is maddening. I've stopped making 2 meals for the most part. I try to make things that include what they like. If they don't eat, then they don't get any snacks for the rest of the night. It hasn't helped them eat any more unfortunately. What's worse is that DH gets home late, after we've already had dinner. Since I can't wait until 8 pm for toddlers to eat dinner, we've already had the picky food battle. Then they see my DH eating minutes before they need to go to bed, and my 3 year old inevitably says "I'm hungry!" and I feel like a cruel mommy saying tough. Ugh.

The worst part is that they ate anything and everything until each of them reached 2. It's unbelievable.

Simple- two options for dinner.... Take it, or Leave it. No snacks, no milk, no treats.
