Petty? Totally. Satisfying? Without a doubt.

SD5 basically had the run of this entire house when I got here. A bit at a time, I've been teaching about disciplining and setting boundaries, to both her and SO.

As you may have read, I recently placed an elliptical machine in the spare bedroom, which until this point had been considered SD's play room. It was explained to SD that it's a combination playroom/spare room, now. Today, I decided to make it usable - after all, I don't want to use my elliptical in a tool with toys scattered everywhere and no organization whatsoever! I cleaned up and organized all of the toys, put them away in drawers, hung up some of my posters that had been looking for a home, and moved my yarn, knitting books, and other notions in there. (I don't have a lot; it's one large tote bag and two 16 gallon plastic containers, and 8 books.) I also put up the futon and put nice, decorative pillows on it to make the room more inviting as a general-use spare bedroom. SD still has her giant pink castle erected and all toys intact. I just neatened things, made the room more inviting to the over-5 set, and found a home for a few things that needed one.

SD, of course, was really upset when she saw this, and at the time, I felt a bit badly about it. Later this evening, however, SD was watching TV, which I hate her doing right before bed, and I told SO that it was 7:00 and time for her night time routine. She argued with us that the program needed to finish, and started throwing a tantrum...

... So instead of getting pissed off and showing my emotions, I went right into the spare room, closed the door, and basked in my job well done on it. I know that it's petty. It's my own little sanctuary now, though, so I can't say that I care very much at the moment.

When daddy moves his girlfriend in and she wants the space.

Haha, and some SMs think it's ALL the kids that cause the issues in the house. I believe if I had moved in and taken over my skids space, things would have been even worse between us.

I didn't get rid of any of her toys. I also didn't move the futon in the room; it was already there, as this was always meant to be a guest/spare room, and not just a playroom: however, with just SO here, that room became the toy repository.

choosetosmile, your SP's house before you came along sounds exactly like my SO's house used to be! Stuff everywhere, hahaha! I know what you went through. It's all about balance.

It's possible. I'm sure he also felt really guilty, because at the time he thought it was an awesome idea, as well, and praised what I'd done with the room - until SD had a fit, of course.

Ugh, yes. But, his family is there, we'll be leaving her with Grandma and Grandpa a bit, we'll have our own room and we're going to be hitting the pubs... I'm actually getting a bit excited. Smile Thanks for asking!

Pretty much! Plus, you know, it'll be fun doing some things in England as a family as well!

I personally think you did a great job at making the room a multi use room!! When I met DH, he had an apartment and each and every room in his large apartment, including the kitchen, had SSs things everwhere. The toys and everything had no real "home".

When we moved in together, the skids had a real hard time understanding that once your done with something that they needed to put it away. One of the skids once actually dared to tell me it was MY job to " be their maid"!!!!!

Since then my favorite thing to say to the skids is " im not your maid"!!! Ha. Even DH says it all the time.

In your case, I personally find it rudiculous for your skid to have two whole rooms only for her. You needed space as well, your the adult!! This wasnt her bedroom, just her ' playroom'. You left all het toys in there & with it being organized, she will get more use out of het toys, now that she knows where they are!! Good for you!!!!!

Thank you! When I moved in, SD had toys in the dining room, in the kitchen... oh, her toys in the second of the "his and hers" sinks in the master bathroom even though she has her own bathroom... it was a nightmare. When I first got there, we organized everything in the community rooms and I said, "I am only doing this once. From now on, everyone is responsible for cleaning up their messes." Just this weekend, SD had to clean her room an bathroom, and thus didn't have time to go to a friend's to play. She threw a HUGE tantrum. We just ignored it.

You know, I considered moving her toys into her room, but then I decided against it. Once we feel like the time is right to remove the huge pink castle, then we'll probably go through her toys and do a cleaning out of the ones she doesn't use anymore (outgrown them, etc).
