applying for a promotion, idea's?

ok so within my company this is not a "huge" thing but i'm applying for a promotion that i've worked very hard at and REALLY want, it's advancing my career and will make me a team lead or "supervisor" within my company which will be my first position held in that category. Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin

The position just opened today, and i'm double and triple checking my resume'.

any suggestions? any managers out there that can give me pointers? Wink Biggrin Wink Biggrin Wink Biggrin

that is awesome news and good for you wanting to take on more responsibilty and possibly more $.

What kind of suggestions you looking for exactly?

This is "in-house" promotion so you should already have a person in HR that you can approach with your resume and tell them of your interest. Maybe set-up the meeting ahead of time with him/her.

this is a position that someone in my department opened by transfering to a completely different building. i have 3 years experience in the department, and working on year 5 (coming up this summer) with the company.

the only "experience" i have is through school, as the "lead of my learning team" which i purposly took to give me more "credited" experience to help my chances for this

Does the position require advanced education and if so do you have such? I know at my old company, when I position was a available, my colleage was unable to apply because of the education requirement she did not have, though she had 16 years with the company and 6 years with the department.

I guess, research the position as best you can. Maybe even ask the person who left the position to recommend you for it now. This always seems to help.

I guess if you haven't lead a team, you need to be able to discuss in detail why you feel you can and what you have learned by being under the previous leader/manager. Also, be prepared to discuss your goals, like furthering your education, further your career within the company, etc. These are goals and objectives and your future manager/supervisor wants to know about, because they can help you move in that direction. if not now in the future.

I was just in this situation last week; applied and got the spot!! So excited. I had tried two other positions; with no luck; so I was down in the dumps.

The thing I kept in the back of my mind was....... Everything happens for a reason! Believe it or not - I do.

Have someone else - that you trust - look at you resume; if you are staring at it too much - you may not catch the mistakes. Also, be detailed - not over the top or anything; but to the point.
