Long time lurker but first time poster. I have a specific question. My SS has not lived in the home for years now. We have been storing his piano but now that we want to remodel and it is in the way. How do I ask him to move it and how long of a time frame do I give him? Note we do not get along at this moment as he is suing his dad for student loan payments(that are in the ss name only) And if he dosent remove it Can I give it away?

At this point, he has abandoned his property and you can do whatever you want with it Smile

Send him a certified letter -

BabyChildSS - please be advised that you have X days to remove your abandoned piano from ListYourAddress. If you fail to meet this deadline, it will be disposed of.

This kid is an ASS - but I know you already know that Smile

Just checked my state laws and according to tenant laws (which I will go by as I dont want to get sued) He has 10 days after notification. I will send that out today certified.
The one silver lining from this(I have been disengaged since reading about it on this site) is that my husband told me to do what I have to do as this is my home and he will back me up. Before we argued over the piano because it was his sons and we should keep it for him. DH may be doing a little disengaging himself

I would also mention in the letter how long it has been left at your home, abandoned by your SS.

Your DH should disengage from his jerk of a son. Suing his dad for his own student loans? Nice.

Craigslist, babe... that is abandoned property. And, those puppies aren't cheap to move. Best offer on CL and the buyer can pay to move it.

It is done!!! Time to rid my home of negativity. Thank you everyone. I told DH what I have done and told him any calls or emails to direct them to me. This should
get interesting. But considering he never really talked to me anyway I am not too concerned over him throwing too much of a temper tantrum

I would move it to a storage unit. Many units will give you a free month's rent. Tell him where it's at and that he has 30 days to make arrangements.
