I found this in CNN Money. DH and I have been divorced from our x's for many years but you just never know what will pop up down the road....

Fortunately that only applies to joint debt. My exH and I kept the majority of our debts separate, so when we divorced, he got his debts, I got mine.
The only thing he was able to screw up was the mortgage, since that was the only debt with both of our names on it.
