she told the kids how much she spent on them for Christmas

Yep,

They get off the phone and tell us the exact $ amount. . . And that the boy has the expensive gift.

This is flat out white trash of her. Without giving too many details, she acts like she doesn't have a pot to piss in. Is always Complaining about money. Yet she and her life in boyfriend have well paying full time jobs! And then she TELLS the kids the monetary amount they are worth to her.

So let's make it a war to see who loves you more!

Sadly the kids Won't see through this. ...............

So what? Why is that a bad thing?

Oh and also - it's very sad if you think the monetary worth of a gift to the child equals the worth of the child to the parent. And it's also sad if you think that the person who buys more, loves more.

DH and I spent $35 on each of my skids for Christmas presents this year. That does not mean they are only worth $35 to either of us.

I'm going to assume you didn't intend the comment that way but let it slip because you're either you're insecure about what you've spent, or you're in some sort of competition with BM.

Yeah, she actually DID say " that's how much you are worth to me" it was A LOT for someone of her means and situation is what I meant by it.
