She does it on purpose.
SD11 is one of those people who loves to try and make people jealous. For whatever reason, it seems to make her feel good. I don't understand the thought process of that. DD7 and DS4 aren't like that in any what so ever.
SD seems to enjoy coming back from weekends saying "Oh, I did this and that and they bought me alllll this stuff!" Usually, DD7 is happy for SD when SD gets something new.
I've blogged about this before.. A few months ago SD11 comes home with a new water bottle. Not a big deal, right? Yeah, I suppose..if the water bottle wasn't pink with an owl on it. Who loves owls? Me. Who loves pink? Me. Who has made it clear that she hates the color pink? SD, of course. Who has made a big deal out of everyone knowing she HATES owls? Of course, SD11. Yet, she comes home with this water bottle.. trying to make a big deal out of the owl..that SHE HATES! I know she did it to try and make me jealous or something along those lines. Theres more to the water bottle story, but those details aren't important right now.
DH always buys these Popsicles called Scribblers. They are layered popsicles with different flavors. Everyone in the house knows I like a particular one. It always has the green apple flavor on the bottom and on the inside. I rarely eat popsicles or ice cream. Like I said, everyone in the house knows I like these kind.. and I'm very, very lucky if there is one in a box of 10 or 12 or whatever. And even then, not every box has this flavor. DH has even dug through the box trying to find me this flavor lol Now, lastnight SD11 grabs a Popsicle. Guess what kind she gets? Yeah..the kind I like. Not a big deal, I'm glad she gets to enjoy it too..EXCEPT for the fact that she KNOWS I like that kind. She KNOWS it's rare to find that kind. Shes eating and looks over and DD and I on the couch and says "LOOK DD! This is sooo weird! It has green on the BOTTOM! See it?! It has GREEEEENNNN on the bottom! IT'S SOOOOOO GOOD"
Not a big deal to me about the Popsicle. It's only a big deal that shes trying to show off and make me jealous. It's like a bratty 3 year old saying "I got it and you didn't!" Might as well stuck her tongue out at me.
I ignore her. DD7 barely acknowledges her. DD whispers to me later on that "was rude and she knows you like that kind." I told DD "Yep. Thats okay. I'm glad she got to enjoy it"
Like I said, SD11 loves to try and show off whatever she has..especially if she knows that one of us likes something in particular. It's like she aims to get something knowing that someone else in this house wanted it/one of whatever it is.
It's petty, but old.

Of course you could really
Of course you could really mess with her and start talking about all the things you LOVE and really want. Of course this is stuff she is able to get. Like..."DH, I want to get one of those new purses. (Describe some random purse in detail). It would be soo cool to have one. But we have too many bills so I guess I will have to wait..."
She gets some gullible person to buy one for her and parades it in front of you and you say...(wait for it)..."Hmm, I thought I would like one of those purses but then I decided they are not my style. Hope you enjoy it! I am saving up for a new umbrella... or maybe a jacket. I don't know yet."
I know it's juvenile but
I know it's juvenile but lately anytime I see something that's cheap or inexpensive in my budget that I can afford that sd14 has added a pic or liked on pinterest or instagram, I buy it. I bought these little phone charms that she was all goo-goo over. And then she saw that I had some and she was all upset and pissed. She kept saying oh I saw those online.
I also bought a scarf that was close to one that she liked. Then I pretended to not realize what she was talking about when she kept pointing out she saw it online.
I bought some paper lanterns for the spare bedroom as well. None of this stuff cost very much. Like you said the popsicles are a small thing.
I'd never buy them again if I were you.
I purposely don't buy food that I know that sd14 likes, I let my SO buy it but I do not pick up stuff that I know she'll eat up bc it galls me to have to pay for her food then she's stuffing her face with it at the same time.
It's hard for me to believe that a child would behave this way. If I hadn't seen it for myself!! Now I am a true believer.
That's sad. It's hard for me
That's sad.
It's hard for me to believe that an adult would behave that way...
Are you aware you come often
Are you aware you come often off as a bully? Or else, very judgmental?
She was in no way picking on
She was in no way picking on an 11 year old! Her daughter called out rude behavior and she confirmed it with a much kinder remark than I would have. And so what if she hates the BM? Most of us do and with good reason!
Oh, HRNYC.. You're very
Oh, HRNYC.. You're very entertaining. Yes, I hate the BM. I have VERY VERY good reason to despise that woman. Have I ever spoken one ill word about BM infront of SD? Nope. It doesn't matter though. BM is completely uninvolved and BM LIKES it that way and apparently, SD does as well.
Picking on an 11 year old helpless child? LOL No, I am not picking on her at all, nor have I ever "picked on her"
Encouraging "other kids" to do the same? No. You're wrong.
Keep thinking what you want. YOU are really coming off as the typical BM that so many of us deal with.
Jesus HRNYC, by your
Jesus HRNYC, by your standards no one could have a conversation with anyone unless all potential involved parties were in the room. You read the OP's response, right? It can't get more polite than that.
Why are you here
Why are you here again?
^^^
I've been asking the same question since the first time she posted anything on my blog (back when I went by another name) and I was staring in shock at how rude she sounded.
She must like getting bitched
She must like getting bitched at, too, because she is like a bad penny...just keeps turning up again.
Would it have made a
Would it have made a difference if SD was a true blood sister and said the same thing to her own sister?
Siblings talk crap and bring up stuff all the time. I hear my nieces pointing out stuff about each other all the time. Not a big deal.
HRNYC is quite amusing
HRNYC is quite amusing really. I trying to figure out how in the world does think? It certainly isnt normal.
Anyway op I wonder why sd does it. Is it b/c she wants attention or is she doing it to be mean? I think I might try to find out why then go from there. I also see nothing wrong with what your dd said or what you said. Your dd was only observing what sd was doing and commented on it.
I find it funny that HRNYC seems to think that sd is the only one that has rights to observe her surroundings.
It sounds to me like the kid
It sounds to me like the kid is a real attention seeker. It's like toddlers when one has something that the other one simply MUST have RIGHT NOW! My ss16 still acts like this if he thinks ss10 and ss11 might be getting something he's not and it's so pathetic and annoying. I think they do it because they're insecure and jealous and can't bear the thought of someone else enjoying something unless they're getting the same or better, just like you might expect from a 2 year old. I wish I knew how to put a stop to it because ss16 is a real pain in the ass. Personally I wouldn't enter into any sort of competition with skid as others have done, but I can understand why people might resort to that if the kid is a real pain and nothing else has worked. I think the best thing is to ignore it as much as possible so the kid doesn't get the satisfaction of getting the attention she's looking for. And I don't think there was anything wrong with your DD pointing out to you how rude her step sister is, and it's good that she's learning young about how not to behave.
