OT - Watch out for social media!
You would think that things like Facebook and such would be a little better about things like porn considering that they allow people as young as 13 to have pages. I was looking through SheSloth's likes...it was an "artist" page for Nicki Minaj. OMG! I was appalled when I hit the page!! Under the "artist" posts, there were what appeared to be spam comments for porn links! Yes...porn! These had very graphic thumbnails! I tried to report some of them to Facebook, and received back a response that the comment was NOT deleted as it was not in violation of their community code! Really? This is freaking porn showing up on a page that you KNOW teenagers are going to visit as it is a popular "artist"! Seriously, after finding this, if I had any kids still at home that I had any kind of say over (as we all know I have no say over SheSloth), I would surely be limiting their social media access at this point!
I'm all over my kids fb
I'm all over my kids fb pages. In their phones and have a recorder type of program on their tablets and the laptop. With the way things are, you kinda have to be super spy with these teens.
I still remember when BD23
I still remember when BD23 was younger, and was using a search engine to look up The Spice Girls, as they were popular with the girls at that time. She was on a computer at school. OMG...the teacher said that BD23 cried for like an hour when she accidentally clicked on a not-so-kid-friendly link!
This is a real problem...kids thinking they are innocently going to the page of their favorite singer, and the comments are full of porn pictures? Add to that all the parents out there that just don't parent...like so many of us on this board are dealing with. Hand them a laptop, tablet, or smartphone and allow themselves to hold up in their room with these devices unsupervised!
And what about the kids that are up to no good? Once they realize they can hit a Facebook page like this and look at dirty pictures and possibly get around parental controls/tracking, because it isn't coming up as porn?
I'm actually concerned about
I'm actually concerned about them all...tumblr, instagram, facebook. It just sickens me though that I make a report on posts that clearly violate the community policies with regards to nudity and sexual content, and they can't seem to see the problem with the posts and they leave them there...sending me a response that they are not in violation. We already have enough problems with SheSloth without her having easy access to porn via social media!
But it is also about parental responsibility! I remember when you had to be 18 to purchase music with explicative lyrics, or have an adult with you. Sure, there were a bunch of kids that would get people to buy them the stuff without their parent's permission. But today, they can go onto Pandora and listen to the non-clean version...they can go on to iTunes and purchase the explicative lyrics. All the while, as this stuff is made more readily available to our youth, you have parents taking more and more of a stand-off approach to parenting...allowing younger children to have possession of internet ready devices such as smartphones and tablets. Sure, there are programs out there you can use to block a lot of stuff, but so many parents don't even use it! Free range parenting at it's best! All the while, this stuff is being shoved in the kids' faces! What happens when some 13-year-old thinks, "Oh...Nicky Minaj! I like her songs!" and goes to hit up her Facebook page! I can tell you what happens...as they scroll down they will probably see something way more shocking than the artist's album cover!
Facebook won't give a flying
Facebook won't give a flying fart because they're all about the profit margin at the end of the day.
I know there are kids as young as 8 & 9 with facebook pages. Their parents allow them to have it on the pretense of sharing photos etc.. trust me - facebook knows this and they won't do anything about it unless someone complains.
Facebook = Fakebook. Complete and total unneccessary crap in there.
Oh, I know this all too well!
Oh, I know this all too well! BM allowed SheSloth to have a Facebook page at 10! Helped her set it up lying about her age and everything! Just stupid!

I'll never forget the time
I'll never forget the time when I was in my high school freshmen english class years ago and I had to look up "rooster" fighting for some reason ....googled "cock fighting" as it is called.......Oh....my.....GOD. I must have turned 20 shades of red and let out a shrill trying to hide my screen faster than the speed of light.
SS12 had/has a instagram page where he posted some questionable things. His Itouch was then stollen out of his backpack at school where he was not supposed to have it, as well as his cellphone that his BM's dad pays for. So I guess that solved that issue, for now.
