Opinions on stripping?
BM has recently gotten into "pole dancing" going on and on about how good of a workout it is and it's so fun and blah blah. Whatever, I understand it's a good workout. Well this past weekend, she went to a strip club with some friends and GOT ON STAGE AND STRIPPED. I'm totally grossed out and disgusted because I think it's not what a mother to two small impressional girls should be doing.
But then I got to thinking. If she's happy with her body (gag me, I'm not one to body shame, but she calls me a whale when I'm easily 20 pounds lighter than her and 100% in my healthy weight range for my height...), what's so bad about stripping? I mean, is it really hurting anyone else? Is it really so bad to have young girls see their mom be proud of her body when we live in a society filled with negativity surrounding the criticism of women's bodies? Just curious what other opinions are here. Feel free to tell me your thoughts!

Seems to me one could pole dance without stripping or appearing naked or close to it.
You want exercise go ahead and use a pole for balance or whatever like a ballerina uses a rail. But don't tell me you've got to 'take it off' to get the exercise benefits.
Go ahead and take it off if you want - women like to be looked at - and men like to look. But don't tell me exercise is the reason. The men certainly aren't getting any exercise, well not much anyway. Women and men do it in sordid "clubs" because both are ashamed of it - you don't see it in public parks like you do other exercise routines.
Never do anything you'd be ashamed to tell mother about.
I'm fine with it because I
I'm fine with it because I look at it like a business as anything else. The only thing I have a problem with is that it can cross into the line of drugs and prostitution if the person's not careful.
I read some posts (not here) by a person who strips as a job. Not very glamorous at all.

I used to go to clubs with my XH to try and salvage our marriage of one year, before we had kids (oh how I wish I had these forums back then!!!) The girls were super nice to me, and I got more and more comfortable the more we went. Eventually it turned into pulling me on stage with them, and I got a lot of hoots and hollers, which culminated into me entering and winning "amateur night". It felt great, until I found out XH was actually cheating on me with some of the girls there....then I just felt like a fool.
I dont care what others do in
I dont care what others do in their life or what they chose for their profession. Of course there are stereotypes of strippers and 9/10 of the strippers fall into one of the catergories of what we think about strippers but other than that it just like any other job. They are there to make money and pay their bills.
I think the culture is different and that is where the trouble can lie.
Honestly I wish I had did an amateur night or something when I was younger. Pre BS. I had a smokin hot body (not to brag) and think it would have been fun and something to cross off my bucket list. Now I am a straight edged professional woman.... so ya it would have been fun.
It really ALL depends on the
It really ALL depends on the TYPE of strip club. I know it sounds odd, but some places are very classy: men must wear suits to get in, girls must wear ball gowns, no touching, distance, very complicated tricks on the pole and girls never get down to any less clothing than a bikini. Some are super disgusting:complete nude, anyone can get in, and anything goes including sex for money. And there is everything in between.
I've know several girls who dance. Some tell their kids and are proud of it, some drive three hours one way every night so there is no way anyone they know could possibly come in or find out.
Some do it because they are very talented entertainers and make killer money. Others do it because they feel they have no other option and need the cash and are willing to do whatever to get some quick.
I personally stripped my way through college. I could do some great tricks, never went below a bikini, and no man ever touched me. I made serious tax free cash and paid for a private college education without a student loan. But although I am not ashamed, I do hope no one finds out. Only because of the negative connotation strippers have and the way society views them.
The pole dancing class is about building confidence and feeling sexy.
And every girl who is a bystander at a strip club wingers if she could do what strippers do, have that confidence. I think your BM probably had a few too many drinks and her inhibitions were gone and thought. Hell I can do that trick! Watch!

One of my gf's stripped in
One of my gf's stripped in university. She's a crazy professional corporate person now. It blew me away when she told me. She also told me it was demeaning, not because of the men in the audience, but the club manager. She stripped to topless, thong stayed on. She felt it was the only way to make that amount of cash short term. Meh?
My opinion is usually live and let live, but when you have kids- keep your damn clothes on.
No one needs to see you nekkid except your significant other.
Now pole dancing- we did it for a friend's 40th bday party. Soooooo much fun lol. And hard- it was exhausting.
Stripping is nasty buisness.
Stripping is nasty buisness. The ones I know of had to have drugs just to get on stage. I have heard of people doing it to get through college, but I don't know of any personally who chose to do that. The stippers I know are strung out on heroin. The more money they make the more drugs they take. I have never heard of a rich stripper.
