This is SO "off topic" but I really need to beat my keyboard for a few minutes!

Sorry men...you may not want to read any further as this deals with female crap.

Ok...I have always dealt with heavy, painful periods. So, after my daughter was born, I went on the pill and have been on them ever since (she will be 14 in 3 months). When she was 2, I had a huge chunk of my cervix removed due to pre-cancerous cells found there. I have had to switch from pill to pill due to issues with them...break through bleeding, bleeding after sex, and would still also have heavy, painful periods from time to time. Ok...so..went for my annual well woman check up in August and told my doctor that I was ready for a hysterectomy..and that should be happening in the next few weeks (Thank God!) But, he also changed my pill again and OMG...they are probably the worst ones I have ever been on! I hate everything and everybody...including myself! In prep for the upcoming hysterectomy, my doc did a biopsy of my uterus (wow...wasn't prepared for how painful that was!), but I have been cramping on and off ever since, and I believe it's due to the pill. I am due to "start" next week and I think my boobs are about to fall off...they are so sore I'm not sure what else can happen. I am an emotional wreck and I am sure it's also nerves about the upcoming surgery mixed in there, but my goodness! I feel like I could happily cut down a forest of trees using only a bat and my anger. Thank God the surgery is coming soon, because I couldn't handle much more of this.

Ok...thank you for listening. I am in a very dark mood and it just wouldn't go away, so I had to get it off my chest!!!

I am open to suggestions about how to ease my discomfort, but not willing to get off the pill completely until the surgery (I believe Nov 10th is going to be the day).

Also...wouldn't mind some suggestions on how to keep myself entertained while I am recovering....

Girl! You need to ask about NOVASURE! Your gyno will know what this is. You can only have this procedure done if you will not be having any more kids.

Do NOT get a hysterectomy until you have tried this. I had the same problem. This procedure puts you out, and they go in and strip your uterus of the lining. It will stop your periods and make your life so much better. Be aware, that once you do this, you will be pushed into pre menopause.

Both my sister and i had this procedure done and we SWEAR by it. It is fantastic.

Only 1 day recovery.... take a nap... and some spotting for a week or two... and no more NASTY, BAD PERIODS! You get to keep your ovaries, etc... and you will feel so much better!

Check it out.

Good Luck.

My ob/gyn and I already discussed this (at least I think this is one of the options we discussed), but since I also used the pill as our #1 form of birth control, I would also have to have a tubal as well as the ablation. And..unfortunately, ob/gyn said that there isn't a guarantee that my period would completely stop..which is what I want.

I really am ok with the idea of a hysterectomy...our insurance is good and I am able to take the time off work and set paid through our short term disability program.

I was really hoping on some ideas to help me get through the crazies that I am experiencing right now.

All that being said, I really appreciate the information!! Thanks so much!

wriggsy - I had major hip surgery in February and I rented from the library all the seasons of bones, csi miami and criminal minds was having marathons all the time - I had to be in bed for over 3 weeks and on crutches for 6 - I also love to read and got about 20 books from the library - I have an internet company and I actually took phone calls during this time - set my bed up to be my office - not so great when you are on percocet but luckily I did not screw up - I am on the go so much that I really tried to catch up on my sleep as well which is very hard when you are in pain but I took the pain pills round the clock and was able to sleep a fair amount. When my daughter got home from daycare - there were a lot of games of uno - that was fun - so just enjoy what time you have and relax and take care of yourself - I also have really dry heels and I took that time to moisturize and condition them a couple of times a day - so at the end of the 6 weeks I had great feet. The only part that sucked was I could not drive for 3 weeks but I live in a very cold state that has a lot of snow so I had a great reason to stay home and keep the fire going - I moved around a lot more than I should have but I am never one to just sit still. Good luck!

As for how you feel now - just keep the surgery date in sight and know it will soon be over - maybe have a beer or two if you can to help you relax or ask your doctor for ativan to help calm the beast within }:) Wink

Ladies..I am getting so many good suggestions! I thank you all! I have gone to my online book swapping site and have some books on the way--I love to read!! I am a Sudoku nut, so I will be getting a whole new book before the day. I have also stopped renting movies so that I can have a bunch to choose from. I love watching Food Network, but it makes me want to get up and cook, so I may have to avoid that channel for a little while! I am thinking I will be unable to drive for 2 weeks, so that's going to SUCK, but I think my mom will be coming to hang out with me during the day. I plan on doing a complete cleaning on DH's room before, so that I can have it set up for my "occupation", and same for SS's room, so that DD will be comfortable for the couple of weeks that we have to invade!

I understand that a new "princess" (what one of my fav websites-HysterSisters-calls a woman that has had a hysterectomy) is encouraged to stay away from spending too much time sitting in front of the computer--DH's computer is a dinosaur and I don't have a laptop either...so not only will I be (probably) bored out of my head, but I won't be able to get on to ST for a few weeks, either. At least...until I can start driving again and go back to my house!!!

I also made dinner for the family for the 3 weeks I would not be able to cook - in one weekend I made 21 meals - I also have a 90 year old FIL that I had to make sure had lunch everyday as well - so I prepared him little meals - the house was cleaned before the surgery and then DH let me hire a maid for the 6 weeks I was on crutches - too bad about no computer - does any of your friends have a laptop you could borrow during the day?

Right on that thought, too. I do plan on making some meals for that first week. The second week is Thanksgiving break for the kids, so I am hoping that DD will be going to spend the week at her dads and skids will be going to AM's, so I'm not too worried about that week. And DH knows how to cook, too, so I am leaving my kitchen in capable hands....

My best friend has a laptop, but she is in school right now and uses it herself. Oh well...I guess I will be ok without a computer for a couple weeks...and if I get too lonely...I can always get on the dinosaur and hope the internet comes up that same day! (hee hee)

I feel so much better just being able to vent a little here. Just like when I vent about the skids! My husband is a real sweetie and I can talk to him about it...but he's a guy and has no real understanding of how crazy being a woman can be!!

OH my gosh I am so sorry!!! I can not relate with the period thing, since mine are not that bad, but I do know that when I was on Lunesta, (the sleep aid) it made me absolutly CRAZY! I almost ruined all relationships in my life, would cry constantly, had so much anger inside that I did not know how to handle myself! When we finally figured out what was wrong, then had already placed me on anti-depressants and anti-anxietly meds... Honestly, it was the darkest time in my life.

I pray that you get through these next couple of weeks quickly!

Ways to keep busy... Books on tape, TV (these time are when I get my fix of stupid reality TV yay!) Catch up with friends, and you can always blog here! Take care and I hope you feel better!! Just remember that this will be over soon. Smile

My mom is scared to death of the IUD...it was one of the options my ob/gyn discussed with me and when I told my mom...she wouldn't even let me finish what I was saying before she told me "No...absolutely not!" It took her a moment to remember that I was an adult and could make that choice if I wanted! (poor mom!)

I don't know what to tell you other than I am soooooo sorry. I had horrible painful periods and endometriosis so I had a total hysterectomy at age 30. BEST thing I ever did. Also, I do NOT NOT NOT take hormone replacement. I tried it for a few months and gained 20 pounds, my face broke out like a teenager and I felt horrid. I quit that crap and was glad I did now that HRT is coming under fire for being linked to heart attacks, strokes and breast cancer.

One thing I did for years and years was when I took the pill, I rarely took my "week off" to have a period. I would just start a new pack of pills immediately to keep from having a period. I did this long before they had a certain kind of pill to do that! LOL It works wonders. My dr said there was no reason to have a period every single month so I didn't. I let myself have about 2 or 3 a year, tops. If I wasn't on the pill I would only have 2 or 3 a year anyway and they would last for a couple weeks. My 15 year old SD has already had more periods than I had my entire life!

Good luck on the hysterectomy. I had a total done laprascopically(sp?)/vaginally and it was a piece of cake! I was feeling well enough to go back to work in a couple days even though they wouldn't let me for 2 weeks.

I am going to be lucky enough to keep my ovaries, so I shouldn't need hormones until they give up the ghost...but hopefully..that's years from now (I'm going to be 40 in a couple months).

I also hope to have it done laprascopically (I find out for sure on Monday) and will be off for a month (my doctor is a saint!) I am thinking I'll be taking it real easy for a couple weeks, but after, say, Thanksgiving, I should be up and at 'em.

I think since the pills are making me crazy...I'm not going to skip my week off pills. If I'm gonna be this freaking crazy...I will at least give myself a reason! It will be my last period for the rest of my life and once I am done, I'm throwing myself a "Throwing the Tampons Away" party!!!

i'm on the depoprovera shot - have been for 10 years and havent' had a period since starting. i'm only 27 so i dont want to do anything permanent to cause early menopause but i dont plan on having kids. i looked into something, but the risks were bad with my family history of breast cancer so i stay on the shot. no one's told me to get off yet and i take calcium pills for the possibility of bone loss.

Nov 10 isn't that far away - you can do it!

If you don't have Showtime (Hmm, or maybe HBO?) - there is a series on there called "Big Love" - is about a pologymist family. DH and I bought the first season when it came out on DVD and we are HOOKED! We don't have the movie channel so we buy the season every year (about Xmas) and I know there are 3 or 4 seasons out so that could keep you busy. The first season has A LOT of sex but the story lines pick up in Season 2. It's a crazy show! Stuff I woudl never think of, very intersting for entertainment!

Do you have a Kindle? If you are a big reader that would be perfect because you can download a new book right from your bed in a few seconds. You can get them now for $150 and if you are a reader it is totally worth it. Mine paid for itself within a few months simply because the best sellers are all $9.99 vs what I would pay for the hard cover when they were first out.

Hang in there!

I have a Kindle on my Christmas list and it's the only thing I am asking for, so I can't go it for myself! But, that's ok, I have tons of books and will have at least 3 new ones waiting to be read!

We don't have any movie channels, but that's ok. I have a couple seasons of the 90's show "Mad About You" that I can watch. I have purchased the first two seasons of "Burn Notice" (on USA) for my DD for Christmas. I might have to hide those from myself so I don't break into them before I have a chance to give them to her!!!

Thanks for the ideas!!! I have had some chocolate, so I am feeling much more serene!!!
