Back from Florida - also my husband is just the best!!

WalkOnBy's picture

We had a great time in Florida - the weather was just perfect, the view from our room was spectacular and we just relaxed and unwound. Such a needed break from the crazy time!!

In other news, before we left, DH made arrangements with the cremation service to pick up Sheba from the vet. They told him that they would return her to us via UPS!! I was walking down the hall when DH was on the phone with them, but I didn't know to whom he was speaking. This is what I heard -

DH - nope, that is not acceptable. I won't have her returned to my wife in the mail. I will come and pick her up Monday morning.

So, this morning, before he went to work, he went waaaaaaaaaaaaay out of his way to pick up my girl. He told me he would bring her with him into his office, because he didn't want her to be in the car by herself <3 <3 <3

He tries to come off as a badass (and is usually very successful at it) but when it comes to me, he is a great big ole softie Smile

Sheba's urn came while we were gone, so I am going to upload and print off my three favorite photos of her and put them in the photo cube/urn along with her paw print, which also came while we were gone.

My favorite girl will be back home tonight...

Your husband is an ass with ASS, BV and KK but he is a an absolute sweetie pie when it comes to you. Welcome back, we missed you.

Yup - he even got after Thing1 last night on my behalf. Thing1 was being a jerk when I was reading the condolence card from the vet as well as the one from the Humane Society where I volunteer telling me that I was overreacting. Grrrr. I told him to shut it.

What I didn't know was that after I went upstairs to start unpacking, DH told Thing1 to knock it off, that I was still grieving and the he should be more respectful. Biiiiig points from me for that one, DH.

Thing1's response was very interesting and totally indicative of who he can be sometimes "sorry, DH, it's just that I use humor to handle my grief." Totally true statement. I guess it's good that Thing1 is self-aware Smile

I think how they treat our furbabies is a huge indicator of who they are. The ninja wiener needs her nails trimmed badly. With little league I have had a hard time scheduling the girl who comes over to trim them. I said I would just do it ( I can, I just hate wrestling her) Hubby was no, you might hurt her just get the girl scheduled or we can take her somewhere. We don't want her to bleed or something.

I am glad Sheba will be home soon.

I totally agree, Sweet T. I love that DH was a complete softie when it came to Sheba. I think how men treat animals and wait staff speaks volumes about who they are Smile

Totally agree. My husband is off on Wednesday's and he refers to it as wiener wednesday and that is their day together. He makes sure she gets some good walks in and sometimes takes her shopping or for a drive.

that is so sweet Smile

when DH would work from home, Sheba would sit on the desk next to his desk and give him kisses and head butts all day long!

When I had to put her down, DH was crying, too. He said it was because I was so upset, but I don't believe that was the whole reason Smile

Yay for good men who love our pets!!

Mr. WOB is your bad ass teddy bear.

That's terrible that the cremation company was going to send your feline bff by mail.

I know, right?? I thought that was just so unbelievable.

Send her in the mail? I don't think so...

That was all so sweet of your DH! When our first boxer and my cat Beebs passed away, DH made the most beautiful oak boxes for the ashes. And he made a place for a picture to slide into each of them. Then HE put the boxes together when their ashes were returned... the ashes, their collar, and favorite toy.

My DH is also a grumpy butt, however he's a softie when it comes to animals (and I had Beebs for years before I met DH).

So, the urn I have for Sheba is a square photo box with some kind of something inside that you unscrew and put the ashes in. I was looking at it yesterday and could not figure out how to open it or how the ashes would go in there or the photos and I was beginning to get upset.

DH took it from me and said "you find the pictures you want, I will do the rest."

Yep - he's a keeper!

What a champ your DH is! That was a beautiful thing he did for you. I was 14 whe I lost my beloved Bruno. He was hit by a car and climbed 3 flights of stairs, put his head in my Mums lap and passed. We were devastated. My grandpa buried him under our hibiscus tree. Everytime I see hibiscus I would think of him.

I now have a hibiscus tree in my front yard and it makes me feel like hes near me. When I was 44, we got Sheba..my lab, who was abandoned. I had her for 4 years before she passed on. Buried her under our frangipani tree. I still miss her. So much. I didnt get another pet cuz I couldnt handle the heart ache. Then 2 years ago, our next door neighbour moved out and abandoned their cat. He's pure white with sky blue eyes. I started feeding him..and he adopted us. Hes been with us since. Fur babies are the greatest!

So happy you enjoyed your break..sending you positive, healing light and happy, peaceful vibes.
