O/T TaxAct is now CHARGING for Itemizing Deductions!!

Unreal!!! Went on Taxact today to start the filing process as I started getting some of my statements. Lo and behold they are now CHARGING for itemization. Umm I ALWAYS itemize and TaxAct never charged extra for it!!

Yes if you have mortgage interest and property tax to report you need to itemize and TaxAct is now charging for those services!!

this is why i like turbotax. u can try to itemize, or take the standard deduction. you can do it both ways and see which one is more beneficial to you.

for us, even with property tax and whatnot, it's been better just to take the standard. but i try it both ways every time. turbotax charges to file, but it's the same price standard or itemized.

PS- i've used taxslayer in the past also, same thing as turbotax

We use TaxSlayer. They didn't charge for itemizing, at least not last year.

There are a lot of things that drive me nuts about the country I live in now, including very high taxes. Buuuuut, the government provides the tax filing software that automatically calculates the best advantage to you, if you don't have access to a computer they will help you fill in your forms in other ways including telephone support, and if there's a mistake - you just correct it. No outrageous fines five years later because they gave you wrong information that you acted on but tough, it's your fault as a citizen because all citizens are responsibile for knowing the Canada Tax Act. Not that I'm bitter.
