O/T I Put My Foot Down
One of the traits of being a Narcissist--and note, I believe the Narcissist is mostly created due to spoiling as a child/lack of parenting--is being overly generous with others. Chef has this issue ever since I have known him.
Backstory: He was spoiled as a child and pretty much allowed to run feral. Born as the absolute baby of the family a combined total of 12 kids and to elderly parents who were both on their 2nd marriages but who no longer gave a flying F.
To appear as a "great guy" to others, he is extremely generous with (MY) resources and he tends to give away his labour and skills for free or next to nothing. Meanwhile he'll overpay someone for anything they provide for me.
Latest example: About two years ago, Chef sold out from underneath me a TERRIFIC buy on a riding mower. A lovely Kubota that I got for quite the reasonable amount. This goes along with the SM being the last to know. I'm sure you're all familiar with the last minute Friday late afternoon call "And btw, I picked up the skids for the weekend because the BM was going out of town."
Well I don't have to deal with THAT specific call anymore due to the skids PASing out, however I did receive a call: "Don't get mad, but I sold your Kubota for a much larger John Deere with a front loader"
1. Since WHEN has Chef EVER been afraid of ME getting angry at him??!! Hell up to this point that was "not allowed" (see narcissist personality trait #1-others are not allowed to criticize or get angry at said narcissist)
2. I love that in public, he makes it sound like I'm the OGRE and have him by the shorthairs. Yeah right.
3. No input from me was attained to sell my Kubota.
Well turns out two years later that:
1. The JD is TOO BIG for my needs as a mower
2. The JD is TOO SMALL and not enough HP or 4WD for what he needs it for.
Once again, failure to do research, make snap decisions, especially impulse buying (narcissistic personal trait #2; thinking one knows everything there is to know)
So the other day, he was on the phone and PROMISING TO SELL THE JD AT AN OBSCENELY LOW PRICE TO A FORMER CO-WORKER without my consent or without finding out what it was worth. He KNEW we purchased it for around $5500 just two years ago and was offering to sell it for $1700 !!!
The next day I got on the web only to find out that even without the front loader, the JD is worth at least 4,500 now. I texted him I'm going to sell it on my own for what it's really worth.
HE CONSENTED!!! Imagine that. After years of going through him kissing up to the BM and skids and now kissing up to all of his other "friends" he NOW is going to listen to the person who is paying the FRIGGIN' LIGHT BILL and the ROOF OVER HIS HEAD bill!!!!

I must say that the GIRHIPPO can also check most of these off as well. All I can think of when I think of Chef and the Girhippo together are two goats ramming their horns together over the rights to stand on the highest hill.
Damn, if you want to sell
Damn, if you want to sell that JD for 1700 I'll drive up and get it. Be worth the gas for a deal like that.
WTF, I guess he doesn't care if there's a lot of money lost on the deal, it wasn't HIS money that bought it in the first place!
EXACTLY!!

Basically I'm running out the clock. He seems to have mellowed over the last year or so providing he doesn't delve into the liquid asshole (bourbon)
He's had about three close calls at work over the last year where he could have been zapped or killed (working on someone's HVAC where the previous "electrician" ran line across gas lines that were leaking and the whole basement was arcing)
I think it was pretty, well, SOBERING.
I'm sure his family (the ones that didn't side with the Gir) think that I keep him away from them, but frankly,I don't care what they think and Chef IS a recluse (although the "life of the party" when in public--another narcissistic trait)
I don't plan on manufacturing karma but I view myself as sort of a "Livia" from the PBS Series "I Claudius." Big fan of that series even when I was 15 yrs old and it first aired. The original eeevilll plotting SM!! LOL!
The only thing that concerns me is that basically I'm his entire universe. I've encouraged him to get a hobby (so he can get out of the damn house and stop orbiting me) but of course he is still on the CS treadmill and will be so for the next 8 1/2 years or so. No time for hobbies.
Hardly. I go out of my way
Hardly. I go out of my way not to make physical contact with him. He is more like a roommate to me.
YSD scored 8 out of 11. No
YSD scored 8 out of 11. No surprise there. She is also a Golden Uterus Super Mom who loves to bask in the reflective glory of her kids' achievements.
Think Thrice, you're one of my favorite posters. I hope that one day soon you'll free yourself from Chef.
