Can't Find Willow's Blog on Gay Marriage Ruling
Saw a glimpse of it over the weekend on my phone. Not sure if this aspect was covered or not in the posts.
Now I believe that a gay couple should have the right to be as miserable as a hetero couple, pardon the cynicism, however here's an issue. Used to be you could get UNmarried benefits such as health insurance coverage etc.
And there's a GOOD REASON why people may not want to get married but just live together. Especially if you happen to live in a GUBM area where the CS laws are rapidly evolving to include considering the "new spouse's income." Not dollar per dollar perhaps but to the extent where it relieves the NCP from having to pay the invisible "self support reserve." Therefore, in theory, freeing up NCP's income to pay more CS to the CP. Coming to an area near you. In NYS, the financial affidavit forms that were REVISED in 2011, REQUIRE that you put ANY family member's income on that form. But then for purposes of CS from the NCP, it states that new spousal income will be considered as I had mentioned previously.

So now, if you DON'T get married for financial reasons, then companies can now rightfully opt out of offering health insurance coverage for UNmarried partners on the basis that it is now legal for EVERYONE to get married regardless of sexual preference.
A case of unintended consequences, I supposed. I'm pretty sure that gay couples will soon run into these issues as well as hetero couples if they haven't already.

I work for my local county
I work for my local county and there is no offering of unmarried partner health benefits that could be paid into. Only if you're married in which case Chef would be no additional cost. And for many reasons including the fact that we're in a GUBM state, that wouldn't be an option.
For Chef to get his own insurance via Obamacare, it would be cost prohibitive and cover next to nothing with the high deductible.
