Who should be asked about daily questions/decisions?

Paintcrisis's picture

I fully recognize that the 'home' is often the woman's domain. Cliche as it may sound, SMs (including my former self) are what make a house a home.

So what requests and decisions do you think your stepkids should bring to you and what do you think they should ask their parent?

For example, do you think they should ask you permission to go to their rooms?

Get a snack?

Go to a friend's house next door?

I realize if you are the only adult at home, it should go to you, as the responsible adult. But what about when you both are home?

So if this was your situation. . .

I read the pregnant SD blog with interest and it reminded me of something (didn't weigh in on it but I would take in my bio and SD if they were pregnant - hopefully not at the same time!).

My sis is not in a step situation but how would you react if this was your step situation? I'm genuinely curious what makes it ok for skids to move in or stay on past high school.

College saving versus retirement saving

The college saving post got me thinking. I read Goodluck's links and the first one dumped on retirement before college savings.

I've been a Dave Ramsey fan for years. His philosophy is kids can go to college on their own dime but who will pay for your retirement?

The link I read said you only save for retirement first if you are expecting college to be paid for by someone else? I think?

Is this acceptable 6 yr old behavior?

Long time, no post.

But I have a burning question for you.

Is it acceptable for a 6 year old to say 'go eff yourself' and call names like 'a-hole' and 'effer' to your siblings? Is it a good excuse to say they don't know what they are saying and don't mean it in that context so just ignore them?

And if you think it's ok to excuse it like that, how does school work if they go to school and talk like that? Can you excuse it somehow in that situation too?

This is for Children with no medical/developmental issues. . .
