Rutherford's blog earlier today reminded me of something I wanted to blog about.
I am 37 and have no bios. After living with my Skids, I know for sure that I don’t want to have any. It's not because they are so horrible, but because I now know for real the amount of hard work it takes to be a good parent and the cost is crazy.
I told SO the other day I want to talk to my doctor about getting my tubes tied. I've been on birth control for 19 years and I'm so over it. SO has talked about getting a vasectomy but he doesn't have medical insurance.
Has anyone without bios taken this step? Is it major surgery and do you think a doctor will do it for me? I had a friend a few years ago that wanted to get a vasectomy but the doctor won't do it because he was too young, but he was in his 20's.

A friend of mine had it done at age 28. The doctor made a small incision in her belly button and she was back at work (desk job) the next day. Other than a little tenderness, she had no problems. BTW, a Catholic hospital may not do this procedure.

Thanks, I have went back and forth throughout the years, wanting one then not wanting one. I never felt like I was in the "right" relationship. Now I just feel like I'm getting too old and can't wait until SKids are old enough so that SO and I can do things without them. Having a child would make it that much longer before we could do that.
I have researched the IUD but I've read some scary stories that concerned me. I went on the 3 month birth control pill about 2yrs ago and I've gained almost 100lbs and have no sex drive. I don't know if the BC is contributing too all that but it did start around the same time.

I'm think I will be given a hard time because I go to the VA for my medical care. They haven't been very helpful with any concerns I've brought to them.

I had a son when I was 20 and knew pretty early on that I didn't want any more kids. I tried to get a tubal at about 25 and the doc didn't want to. So I had them put in a Norplant. After those 5 years were over, they gave me the tubal I wanted to begin with. Then another doc tried to talk me into a reversal after I met my DH and we got married (!!!).
Although I guess I would have liked to raise a child with DH and no toxic influence (BM), I sure as hell couldn't have done it with all the stress we were going through. Now it is way too late.

I have no bios and have never wanted kids. My doctor agreed to do it when I was 27 (I was single and had never been married). I had no problems, have never regretted it, and it cost me ten bucks out of pocket.
