How normal is this?
So recently Ss has been making comments about how much he hates school. He's 6 and in 1st grade. I've asked him why he felt this way and he just shrugs and says "I just don't like it. I don't want to be there." Dh asked him also and asked if anyone is picking on him and he said. Usually he's quick to tattle so I don't think he'd lie about that.
Is this normal? I'm not like overly concerned or anything, I just thought it a little strange. I don't remember ever really hating school, esp not in elementary school.

I work with kids around that age. It is perfectly normal for some kids to 'hate' school. The jump from kindergarten to grade 1 is hard on some kids. Has he said it from day 1 or just recently? If DH is concerned, perhaps arrange a meeting with his teacher and see if there's anything he's struggling with, either academically or socially. Most kids grow out of it once they develop a core group of friends.

Hmm come to think of it, he's started saying this maybe a few months after he started kinder. Yeah, I think I'll suggest to Dh that he talk with the teacher. I think he struggles because at Bm's house he is given adult status and so I know he has issues talking back to the teachers and is usually in trouble because he doesn't think he has to listen to the teachers.
Thats probably it right
Thats probably it right there. Teachers dont have to put up with the talking back crap that parents do. I sure dont. If they arent used to a positive authority figure then of course he will hate school..lol!

In grade 1, I was put in a split 1/2 class with desks in a row, etc etc. It was a DIFFICULT transition. Very strict teacher, who told us we were not allowed to get up from our desks without permission.
One day, she fainted. The class was silent and still for several minutes. Then one brave little grade 2 girl got up and went to get a teacher from another classroom.
I still look back on that as how 'obedient' kids will be. I was glad to be shifted to a regular grade 1 class, where we had desks but in small groups (same as in grade 3, come to think of it) and we still had circle/story/sing-a-long time.
