O/T: TV shows
What are you currently watching, or what have you recently finished that you’d recommend?
Disengagement this time of year is the best. I get all cozy with some wine and all the lights off, but the Christmas tree lights, after I tuck in my littles.
I just finished the first season of Broadchurch (I know, I’m a few seasons late to discovering this show) in 2 days and it is so, SO good!
I also recently finished watching Chef’s Table. It’s a beautiful show if shows about food are your thing.
Both show are on Netflix.
You!?

Surprise (literally)! Skid is here!
She arrived early yesterday morning.
** Originally posted in the Disengagement Forum. Update added below.
The other night I asked DH when Skid will be here, because I like to be prepared.
DH stares off in space for a second, then responds with “Uh, mid month I believe?”
I don’t respond.
He continues “I know that BM booked the flight and that skid is going to miss her holiday concert at school. Skid is not too happy about that, even though I know she’s excited to come here.”

I live for these moments...
When I can hand DH his arse.
We’re shopping last night, and while browsing the young girl's clothing department for our almost 4 year old, DH nonchalantly informs me he received skid’s Christmas list. Yes, in DH’s family, you text/email/write down what you want for Christmas and deliver that list. It’s ridiculous.
Me: Oh yeah? What does skid (newly 11) want for Christmas?
DH: Gift cards mainly. She wants a gift card from X, a gift card from Y, and a gift card from Z. Oh, and she said she likes mystery books.

A few updates
- I recently found out that BM is marrying dude bro in January 2018. This is good news! I hope she has a long run of a marriage and stays out of mine. Now her fiancé can legit move from father figure status to bonafide father, too. BM has always loved rubbing it in DH’s face how dude bro had “stepped-up like a REAL man”. Funny coming from a woman that made sure I knew I was not, and never would be skid’s mom. The double standards are strong with her.

BM is such a gem
I’m for the most part disengaged, so I try to keep myself out-of-the-know when skid is with BM during the school year.
But, last night DH brought up the fact that skid has started her mentrual. I responded with my usual hands-off approach of “Oh, really? When did you find this out?” Apparently, per one of DH’s phone calls with skid, BM told her to “Ask your dad to tell you about it”, when skid went into twenty questions of body anatomy.
Skid is 10. No wait. She JUST turned 11 a couple weeks ago.

Give me insight. Give me strength...
Because I'm about to lose my you-know-what.
FIL had pushed and pushed and pushed his DUI / Child endangerment charges out as long as humanly possible. Earlier this month, he has a court date, because I'm assuming he passed up on a plea deal, and walks away with: 5 weekends in jail, followed by 16 weeks of ankle monitoring, on top of losing his license for a year and legal fees.

O/T: This heat and humidity has me craving....
A tomato sandwich on lightly toasted bread with heirloom tomatoes, red onion, spring mix greens, mayo and salt and pepper.
A Bloody Mary too (thanks Aniki 8). I always order mine with extra vodka. If I'm at a place that serves it with the works (bacon, pickled carrots, peppers, etc...), that's a plus! This is basically "my drink". At Thanksgiving and Christmas I like to make them with homaemade veggie juice. Bobby Flay's recipe.
What's your favorite sandwich?
Drink?

O/T: Need new-to-me bedtime binge show
On Netflix or Hulu.
Preferably no period pieces, no comedy - at least not silly comedy like The Office or Parks and Recreation.
I've already binge watched all the seasons, two times over of those shows.
I do like dark comedy, though. DH and I recently finished watching the series Baskets and really, really liked it.
Aside from those, I've already have seen Stranger Things, Black Mirror, Flaked, OITNB, A Handmaid's Tale. The Keepers, and Making a Murderer as well.

Skid leaves tomorrow (and other good news)
** doing the happy banana dance **
The downside being... I have to endure a delicious dinner, at the chef's table in the kitchen, with these people (skid, MIL, FIL) at DH's restaurant.
Do I "have to"? No, not really. But, the Asian fusion food is top notch, made from scratch goodness - and free, obviously. I've noticed lately it's hard on my stomach to eat when I'm surrounded by people I loathe.

O/T: FIL's DUI charge going to trial
Last summer my FIL got in a low speed, single car accident with skid in the car. I overheard MIL tell DH that it's going to trial in September. My inlaws are blaming the lawyers, courts for why it's going to trial, but that's not the way this works now - is it?
I can only assume it's going to trial because he hasn't accepted a plea bargain?
The cognitive dissonance is strong with my inlaws. I feel that my FIL is going to walk into court, roll the dice, and have his ass handed to him. He's 70 years old. He doesn't drink, but he does take a cabinet full of pills daily.
