Skid has been gone a month
... and I finally got the opportunity to nudge DH towards dealing with this whole journal issue (read my last blog post).
DH and I were out shopping yesterday, for nothing in particular, or at least I thought, until I noticed he was browsing the birthday cards, cute trinkets, and journals. Ah ha, that’s right, skid’s birthday is in eight days.
Side note: Skid lives on the other side of the U.S., and without my help, there is NO WAY this birthday package is going to arrive on time. DH is a procrastinator when it comes to stuff like this. But, oh well.
Me: “You’re looking at journals! Are you thinking of getting one for skid?”
DH: “I’m thinking about it. Thinking of putting some quotes in there for skid, too.”
Me: “Quotes? Like inspirational quotes? Really? That seems rather passive-aggressive and beat around the bush-like, don’t you think? How about you just write a sweet and to the point note in there for skid along the lines of ‘Skid, I encourage you to continue to journal, blah blah blah, love dad’ instead?”
DH: “Meh. I’ll think about it.”
He ended-up buying skid a birthday card, a cute coin purse, and a rutilated quartz sterling silver ring. I really wish he would have purchased her a journal, too. And at this point, I doubt he’ll get one before he mails her package.
When we got home, he did say that he’s going to find a therapist and start attending therapy with her when she’s here on visitation, hopefully starting in December.
Shockingly, DH hasn’t received any scathing emails from BM, like he has in the past.
