SS17’s new job.
So I talked to SS17 beginning of last week if he would be interested in working for certain soda company. Told him he can get his CDL through them, it's union, the pay good to start etc. He said he would be interested.
I sent a text out to a connection, he told me have him fill out the application online. Did that, he called SS17, set him up for an "interview" yesterday and hired him right there. SS17 said it wasn't really an interview and everyone that walked in and out my connection was like OH he knows missk! Haha.
He strictly got this job because of me.
SS17 (he will be 18 in a few weeks) will start this job the day after he turns 18. Making $18.06 an hour full time. Not bad for a 18 year old with no bills right??
He needed SOMETHING. He had no plan for after high school and he will do well there.. I think. He wants to work and make money. It's a positive from other trouble skids on here.
I hope with this he will "grow up" more when it comes to things within the house. He will see the trouble he has caused his father, his siblings, and me through out the years. Hoping he will understand things now.. if that makes sense.
When he called me when he got home after the interview and told me how it went I was just like yeahhh it's good to know people and be well liked! (Talking about myself LOL) He is going to be working with a bunch of people who have met/dealt with me throughout the years and no one will have anything negative to say about me. I know that for a fact. So it will be interesting to see how he acts.
I was helping him with another form that he had to fill out last night and he was talking to SO and I just about the job in general. He brought up that BMs husband told him (I am assuming when he called BM about the job) that if he were to get a different job with the same union he wouldn't have to pay again (initail fees) I was like well yeah depends if you quit etc. that was about it for the part of the convo.
After SS17 left our room SO goes I bet BM had some nice words to say about you to her husband for helping him. I said to SO I don't know how much he (SS17) actually would share with BM. SO said she HAS to know this was all you. I said well is she suppose to be mad?? LOLL. She very well could have been.
It's only going to make our lives better. No more up to 4am playing video games and stuff! WOOHOO!
I think this will be a new start for him. I hope!! Haha

Good!
Sounds like SS is maturing. This is a good step. Congratulations!
Some tips
Make sure he starts saving at least within the 6 month mark. What happened with my stepson is that he makes pretty good money but he also spends a loooot!! Goes out, buys new clothes, ubereats, etc. He has not learned how to save! Teach yours how to save ASAP!!
I already told him his phone
I already told him his phone is going in his name. He will have that bill. SO is pretty good with telling him to watch his spending. He hasn't bought him clothes in awhile now. SS knows that will be on himself now too.
Good that he's working
Anyone who is unemployed right now wants to be IMHO. In my case, the HousesHitter will most likely be chronically unemployed. He's 18.5, got a pity diploma after doing zero work/truancy galore and is a druggie. Hard to miss too; 6' 5" 300 lb ginger.
Yet the Gir still gets CS for him until he's 21. He just posted his "fortune" on social media and i had to laugh..."this time next year you will be in your new house with a new car, fame and fortune blah blah."
I certainly hope so to get him emancipated and the Gir off the payroll once and for all but I doubt it.
Agree with the unemployed
Agree with the unemployed statement. I really hope you guys can somehow get Gir off your payroll. If the kid/adult isn't in school or disabled why the F should the "other" parent keep paying for a fully functional adult. Bunch of BS.
Well done
Get him to set up a saving account straight away. If he sets up a direct debit (not sure what the american equivalent is) he won't notice not having the money. Same thing goes for any pension contibutions.
You wouldn't believe the number of younger people in my organisation that I've had to nearly bully to get to start their pension savings. Our company has an unbelievably good matching policy (for companies in this country) of up to 8%. That's 8% tax free of your basic salary. Free money and the kids don't understand enough about personal finances to realise that they will never make that easy/safe a return on their investment like that anywhere else.
I work for my state and we
I work for my state and we have to put in 6% of our salary to a retirement plan and the state matches the 6%. I hated it when I started in my 20s and a lot of our new employees complain but I'm so glad I had to do that since I'm almost 59. With that income I could retire from my job early and work part time or whatever I want to do at 60.
