"So... mom hates me"
" ____ was bothering me while I was trying to study so I told _____ to shut up and mom yelled at me. She said I was a freak and a weirdo for caring so much about getting good grades. I have 2 tests tomorrow. She kept yelling at me and I told her I hated her. She said 'Good, I hate you too!'"
:jawdrop:
Yep. This actually happened. My husband's daughter is being made to feel like a freak and a weirdo....by her own mother... because she wants to succeed in school.
Apparently BM fights with 12 year olds as if she is also a 12 year old. DH's son said he wants to live with us. Hmmm. I wonder why.
I've made no attempts to hide the fact that I wish my husband's kids didn't exist, but I've never said a harsh word to their faces. Ever. I keep all my negative comments to myself, or let them out in this forum, or if it is a particularly bad day, I share my feelings with my DH.
This little incident disgusts me beyond words. Apparently things like this are commonplace in the BM's home these days.

Uberskank?? Is the BM in your life Uberskank??
She knows her mom is
She knows her mom is irrational. It is so sad. This poor girl vacillates between feeling like she has to be the mom and using the situation to manipulate and gain the upper hand with her mom.
She is a smart kid but still, no one needs to hear that they are a freak at an age where they already are prone to thinking they are a freak.
Maybe DH could consider
Maybe DH could consider getting her counseling with someone who specializes in helping teens.
I like this. I hope she
I like this. I hope she makes it that far. A lot can happen to crush a kid's dreams at this age. Ugh.
Poor kid. Good for her for
Poor kid. Good for her for wanting to do well in school. Sadly, some kids her age don't want to.
Maybe DH could talk to BM in a non-confrontational way, get her side and tell her this is inappropriate.
He should definitely give SD an extra hug, and document this incident. Maybe it's time to go before a judge to ask that physical custody be given to DH.
This woman sounds like a
This woman sounds like a total moron. I'm glad you can be an intelligent influence on her. Woman should be slapped with a heavy object treating her own child like that.
That is so sad. It is so
That is so sad. It is so completely easy to mess up a young girl's self esteem. I know my mother did a real number on mine. For some reason, kids believe that no matter WHAT, their moms will love them and show caring and compassion. If it doesn't happen, the kid figures something is wrong with THEM, not something is wrong with MOM. That comes after years of that type of behavior.
