Not doing diddly for DH this Father's Day

Living the dream's picture

All of the talk about Mother's Day got me thinking about Father's Day being on its heels.

I've decided that, this year and going forward, I will no longer orchestrate any celebration of Father's Day for DH on behalf of his three kids.

Since we've been together, I've always bought a nice card and had them sign and present it to him at a special meal I spend hours preparing.

His oldest is 20 and the youngest is 14, FFS! I will no longer make sure they acknowledge their father on this day. If his feelings are hurt, so be it. I'm sick of making it look like they actually remembered.

I suspect that he is little more than a breathing wallet and free chauffeur to them, but maybe they will surprise me and plan something on their own. Of course I will prepare a meal and take them shopping if they ask me to help, but I won't be initiating the celebration.

I would just make it clear to the skids that they are old enough to come up with a plan themselves for their dad for Father's Day and that they should moving forward.

I think because you have done it for years, the skids and DH expect it from you and if you just stop doing it without any warning you are going to look like the bad guy in their eyes.

I agree with you both. It's hard to be the one to make sure everyone else's day is remembered and then when it's mother's day, or your birthday, what do you get.....???? (if you're like me this is the part where you'd hear crickets! )
Keep your chin up and give them notice NOW that (as per Classy, Sassy, and a little Smart assy said above) they have this from now on. After all, to paraphrase men EVERYWHERE 'He's not YOUR father' Wink

Father's day was celebrated here om Feb 19th, 4 days before I moved out.
I bought a beautiful celebration cake and left it on the table during the night so that SO and SS would see it first thing in the morning. I'm a jerk and clearly I wasn't thinking straight or aware of exactly why he wanted me out. But sill, I'm a jerk!
