OT-for those of you with autistic kiddos or step kids please watch this

I just watched this film and it was amazing. As the mother of a child with autism, I know how difficult it is, especially when our kids are little to deal with their issues. It is one thing for a bio-parent to deal with this, but as a step-mom or step-dad, I can only imagine that it is so much harder.

My journey with my child was very different, as I did not listen to most doctors. I found myself constantly reading and looking for every alternative possible and I have to say that today my son is a completely different person than he was 7 years ago. He is social, well-behaved, still takes speech therapy and is a bit odd, but doing so very well.

The most important thing to really remember is to understand that they can hear us, many can understand what we say although it might seem like they cannot because of their speech abilities. I focused on finding any way possible for my son to communicate. I also did many other things with him, but my biggest concern was that he could communicate. After watching this film, I can see that I definitely did the right thing.

You can find it in parts on YouTube, but it is also available on Netflix.

With so much bad press about autistics, I hope that even those of you without autistic children take the time to watch it. It will really change your mind about what autistic children and adults truly are.
