I just bought a BRAND NEW TENT - I've never used it. SO took it down a night early with his kids to stay in a field at a friend's farm for a big kid friendly but boozey party. Just got a text to say that a friend of mine ran over it with her car and destroyed it. No one seems to know how. I haven't even left yet to go down there. On my way in a minute.
You're never happier than when making the worst assumptions about other people it seems. At the time of the incident no one was drinking and there were only a handful of kids present. The tent slayer's, my steps and the hosts'.
No one drives once people start drinking. I do now know what has happened. My friend was driving their new car for the first time and she has just had casts off her arms - she broke both arms earlier this summer. She didn't know how to steer, put it in gear properly and she slammed the accelerator rather than the brake. Yep, she shouldn't have been driving it. At the time we had the only tent up in the whole big field, so it is kinda crazy. And probably just the kind of circumstances where it should have been safe for her to drive the car even with the issues I described.
They are buying us a new tent.
We are incredibly happy that no kids were in tent and the electronics that were in the tent weren't damaged.
On the plus side, these old friends that don't know my partner very well were astounded by his cool. These old friends absolutely hated my ex, so they were always going to think that my partner was a step up (pretty much regardless), but the way he reacted kept his cool they were so happy. And obviously they've known my bio son for most of his life so they were on the look out for any issues around the way he treats my son - which is awesome.
Big boozey party with kids around is not uncommon in the UK.
At the time it was unclear - now I do know what happened. We managed to sleep in the tent over the weekend with the help of a lot of duct tape and some mismatched poles. She is replacing the tent.

I don't believe no one knows
I don't believe no one knows what happened. That they haven't told you what happened, I believe.
"Friend" who ran over tent and destroyed it should be buying you a new one.
