SS wants to become a computer engineer.

*cue the laughter*

DW told me this when I gave her a little heads-up yesterday on what my reaction will be when SS's report card comes in at the end of the week. I want to prepare her in advance because some of the things I am going to say is not going to be pretty, but I am going to say it anyways.

She needs to hear it.

DW said that there is no reason for me to come down hard on anybody because she is confident this report card will be glowing. In her opinion, SS has become much more "studious" ever since he told her that he wants to become a computer engineer.

I thought for a second there, I had wax-buildup in my ears and wasn't hearing properly.

Computer Engineering?

Words cannot describe the sheer willpower it took to not explode with laughter.

"What bought this on?" I asked.

"He likes computers..." Was all DW answered.

*blink* *blink*

I feel like busting out laughting when BF talks about paying for the Skids college. One, he has no money. Two, Every year for the past 5 years we have had parent/teacher conferences because the SKids are in danger of failing.

SS14 says if he can't be a surgeon he'll be a video game tester or a WWE wrestler. Right!! He is failing EVERYTHING.

Isn't that ambitious? Video game tester. SMDH :?

OMG! SS15 is going to be a computer engineer too!

Even though he sucks at anything school related, including math and science.

And he has zero ambition.

And will never get into trade school much less college with his academic record.

Why is he going to be a computer engineer, and be a millionaire with his very first job? (Besides the fact that he's entitled.)

Because, "I'm real good at playing computer games."

Alrighty then.

When I told him you need to be good at math and science to be an engineer, he went, "You DOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?"

De de deeeeeeeeeee.

I actually did some video game testing once upon a time.

A couple of hours on the weekend for a few peanuts.

It's nice if you like it, but you certainly can't make a living off of it.

*choke* *sputter* *cough*

DAMMIT. now i gotta clean the coffee off my monitor......

how in the ever loving f*ck does she think he'll pull this off? oh WAIT, he can qualify for some sort of affirmative action thingy cuz he's tall.

I think I may be a part of the problem. DW and SS see how easy it is for me. I have a great job, a good income and how math and science are as easy for me as breathing....They must see me in the same light as most of us percieve "Cirque du Soleil" performers, doing all those flips and handstands with such grace that it looks so easy anyone can do it?

Poor analogy to be sure, as the last time I did a flip of the box in gym class I broke my foot!

BS29 was sponsored in skateboarding and snowboarding when he was 13-15. He was good but I wouldn't let him hang with the pros. Most of them were in their 20s and were heavy partiers. He got lots of free stuff, clothes, boards, etc. I remember telling him that we'd support his goals but he'd have to forego the partying. He grew 6 inches and it got too hard for him to do the tricks. It takes a lot of hard work and practice.

yeah but that's just software. Computer engineering is a branch of electrical engineering which touches the software AND hardware aspects of the field.

Only 1 in 4 engineering students makes it through the Basic Circuits course (ELECTRICTY 101) in the first year.

Here's how my orientation went.

About 100 students in an auditorium. Dean of Engineering looks up at us and says "Look at the person on your left. Now look at the person on your right. By this time next year, one of them will no longer be here."

I totally believe it. I can barely find anyone who can even TROUBLESHOOT anymore, be it ANY field! Guess they never were taught "process of elimination."

Cliches are probably the only thing they have left after being tenured for three light years. (Burn out!) Biggrin Wink

My SS14 wants to be a "football player or something that makes a lot of money so he can buy a fancy car and have a pretty wife".

(Mind you he's never played on a football team.

OSS18 was going to become a ROCK STAR. He makes smoothies part time on a food truck and smokes weed. Barely graduated his dumbed-down school district with a 1.7 GPA.

Dear Lord! My skids are always told they are going to be professional celebrities by the BM (and to a lesser extent, Chef)

ALL THREE ARE TERRIBLE AND TALENT-LESS!

This is hilarious. My husband dreams of SD becoming a doctor or a nurse. It's not going to happen.

I had a friend in junior high who saw the movie "Twister" and decided she wanted to be a tornado chaser.

She was averaging C's and D's in all of her subjects and she wasn't in the academic stream either.

I've talked about her before. She's the friend who got paid for getting C's and D's and she currently works at 7-11.

What the F?

That's like me seeing the Jaws as a kid and saying "I WANNA SWIM WITH SHARKS!!!"
