Quick math quiz: How much Milk does SS need to make 1 cup of hot chocolate?

So DW and Donkeykong can’t come to an agreement on getting a tutor for SS. They haven’t been fighting, but their email exchange over the matter has dragged on for two weeks now.

Two. Weeks.

During these two weeks, I’ve been silent. I decided to not say anything and just let DW and her ex work it out. Which I suppose is the right (and only) thing I can do. Except neither DW nor Donkeykong seem to have any interest in resolving this any time soon. I mean, why bother with emails at this point? Why not just send each other smoke signals? It will probably go faster…

So during these two weeks SS is not only doing any better at school but he is languishing. The “no video game” rule suddenly became “no rules” at all! Bedtime rules are back to being just "suggestions". He pecks and nibbles at his supper and then later chows down on bread, Nuttella and milk like he was about to go into hibernation.

Speaking of milk, he wasted half a gallon of it last night. DW “taught” him how to make hot chocolate. When I say, “taught”, I mean she taught him how to make hot chocolate as if he were out in the woods. DW’s method of making hot chocolate is to pour an indiscriminate amount of milk in a pot and heat it over a stove. So lately, whenever SS makes himself hot chocolate, he uses half a gallon of milk to make one cup of hot chocolate.

I explained once and only ONCE that this was extremely wasteful. But explaining the concept of wasting food to SS and DW is like trying to explain to 18th French Nobility that there is not enough flour to make bread. They look at me quizzically and are amazed that the magic fridge doesn't replenish food by itself.

So SS just keeps doing this.

Surprise surprise….we run out of milk early….

So last night, after DW comes out of the bedroom I tell her. “I hope you are not planning on having any milk with your cereal tomorrow.”

DW seemed in shock and immediately went to check the fridge.

“What are we going to do?” DW says. “The kids need their cereal in the morning!”

I pointed to the pot that SS used just a half hour ago. “We could use SS’s leftovers?”

I didn’t have to say anything else. DW quietly put on her jacket and went out to the corner store to buy more milk.

Maybe this will teach her to teach her son to stop being so wasteful. Maybe...

How many midnight trips to the corner store will it take to get DW to tell her SS something about being wasteful?

Hey! Another Math question!

this is like Core Concept or whatever the hell method their teaching now.

chocolate + 1 cup milk = hot cocoa

well 1 is not a friendly number. 5 is. so lets add 4 to it.

5 is friendly, but 10 is even nicer to work with. so we'll add another 5.

but now chocolate is lonely. so lets add 4 then 5 to chocolate so it'll match.

..........

you should just pull the damn stock pot out and buy a freaking cow!

side note- you might be able to find an itty bitty saucepan for him to use. they were using "childrens cookware" one night on Cutthroat Kitchen, so i know they're out there....

I seem to recall my first attempt at making a B-52 shot follow this method.

Don't remember much else of that night however...

Stop asking obvious questions! This is StepTalk! Not LogicTalk!

That's what I was wondering.

In fact, if you like Hershey's syrup:

-squeeze syrup into mug
-fill mug w/ milk
-stir
-put in microwave for about one and a half minutes

I like making it with the cocoa, but this is (should be) an easy way for a kid.

ah see this is where logic comes in, unfortunately a thought process that draco's ss seems particularly deficient in....

I had to make a step-by-step guide for SD so she could clean her own bathroom at age 15! So yes, sounds like this SS needs a step-by-step guide to making hot chocolate. Although Draco's DW taught him how, so maybe SHE is the one who needs the guide?
