Can you punish skids for stupidity, or should you just let nature take its course?

The stupidity of this kid just never ceases to amaze me.

SS is already grounded. No electronics until his grades improve. His cell phone is "partially" confiscated. Meaning that he can't have it when he is at home, but when he leaves the house, he can have it in case of emergencies.

I wanted to confiscate his cell phone and lock it away completely, but DW brought up the point that it is Donkeykong's phone and Donkeykong does need to call SS on occasion, especially when he is being picked up after school. Alright, whatever, but when SS is in the house, there is no reason for SS to be playing with it.

So, on the Friday before Spring Break, I notice that there are 3 missed calls on the house line; all from Donkeykong. I asked DW about it and she calls him back.

DW: "Donkeykong it's DW, you called the house three times today?"

...

DW: "Why did the school try to call you?"

...

DW: "WHAT!?!?"

...

DW: "No! I didn't know this!"

...

DW: "Uh....No, he did not tell me this! What did SS tell you exactly!?!?"

By now I am curious and am listening intently, but obviously, I am only hearing DW's side of the conversation. DW whispers to me to check SS's portal.

So I go online to check....

SS missed school that day. The school followed procedure and tried to call DW. DW cannot be reached when she is at work because employees are not allowed cell phones on the floor, so the school called the father.

Donkeykong tried calling the house three times before SS finally decided to answer. He told Donkeykong that he was sick and didn't go in. Donkeykong then asked if DW knew that SS was staying home and SS said yes (which is a lie).

Needless to say, both DW and Donkeykong were very upset about this. DW asked Donkeykong what they should do, Donkeykong's only reply was "I don't know. I am very annoyed about all this."

Hang on folks! There's more.

Donkeykong texts DW later.

Donkeykong: "You've confiscated SS from all electronics at your house right?"
DW: "Yes, until his grades improve."
Donkeykong: "I am going to do the same. I want the punishment to be consistent between the homes."
DW: "Sounds good to me. Do what you think is best."
Donkeykong: "Oh and I am taking his cell phone away too."

Halle-freakin-lujah Right?

No wait! There's still more!

Donkeykong: "DW, sorry to bother you about this, but did SS leave his cell at your place?"
DW: "Not that I know of, why?"
Donkeykong: "I asked SS to give me his phone but SS says he lost it."

This sounded like yet another lie, but I checked the phone records. After Feb 27, there has been no activity on the cell. A couple of incoming texts, but nothing outgoing. No internet or roaming activities either.

DW and I got into (yet

DW and I got into (yet another) argument about this. I wanted to kick SS's ass awake at 6:30am every morning and force him to leave the house at the same time as DW and me. This would force him to have to wait at the bus stop for half and hour. Unfortunately DW thinks that is "too cruel" considering it is still cold out.

I gave up on this one because the stress was starting to get to me. I just told DW "I don't know HOW you can put up with this bullshit DW. I really don't! Oh and for your information, his lying and other stupidities is just going to get worse!"

Yeah, it will get worse. When my BS26 was going thru his ditching high school phase I had to take drastic measures. I had to start going in to work late because I made sure that I stood on the bus stop with BS and made sure he got on the bus. It was humiliating for him but I didn't give two shits. I would tell the bus driver, in front of ALL the kids on the bus, "He is not to get off this bus until you arrive at the school." Then I would call the school and I would make sure he had arrived. Eventually, he dropped out at the 11th grade but I didn't give up. I put him in an alternative HS and the bus would pick him up in front of our house. He graduated HS and then joined the Army.

Not odd at all. I would skip school and stay at my friends house while SHE was at school and it would be me and her grandmother. I'd lay in her room and sleep all day. I also would skip school and ride the train, back and forth from the first to the last stop, over and over and over until 3pm hit.
