A look into the future......

Have been thinking about my skids alot lately. My DH is missing them alot, of course, and he has pulled through some "tough moments" really well. He is happy about us being here, and with our home life and all, but I know he is worried about his kids, and how they are right now. His mom is supposed to visit with them soon, so she will let us know how they are. My DH did call SS on his cell phone, it went strait to v-mail, and we did not get a call back. I don't even know if he has possesion of the phone, but it was still his v-mail when DH called. I hope all is well with them. When my MIL sees them she is going to give them the cards and letters we got them. I keep wondering now, just what lies ahead in the future for a relationship with them?? I know when they turn 18, they can pretty much do what they want. I don't expect to much out of SD, I hate to say this, but she is just a "shell" of a person, and will probably always follow what her mom says/does. SS is more "with it", and I do expect that things will be more open with us to him when he's an "adult", or at least I hope. Growing up the way he has, I do worry about what kind of baggage he will drag into his adult life, (and probably dump some of it on us), And then I have moments where I imagine a more positive out come, and we will be able to reunite with him. I can only hope. Has anyone ever had a more positive relationship w/ skids as they have grown......or should I not look forward to this, and expect to much?

i definitely think u should always hold out the hope that the day will come when y'all can have a good relationship. and i really believe that ur skids will want to...theyve already shown u that they love u and are interested in u and know what their BM really is...and im sure they will make the rite decision one day. even if it doesnt come the day they turn 18 or soon after, i just know one day it will, and i will never lose that hope for u and DH. Wouldn't it be great to have everything be ok with all of us one day? I will sit here and wait with you (sounds kind of like Winnie the Pooh, doesn't it - well he is a smart bear!)
