OT - Tubby Tuesday

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Welcome to Tubby Tuesday!!! (Somethingwicked is directly responsible for this post!)

Okay, STalkers... WHO has been practicing Stomach Stretching in anticipation of the annual family pig-out on Thursday? Going for hours with NO food so you can sit down and tuck in to a smorgasbord, a cornucopia of culinary creativity. Was it you? or YOU?

Well, I did last night. OINK!!! I'm on a clear liquid diet today for medical procedures tomorrow (yippee-ki-yay). I totally pigged out. I had a hefty, hot steak and cheese sandwich and a bag of chips. Then I had dessert. Twice. What can I say? Liquid diets don't agree with me. My boss brought in donuts and bagels today and asked me to help her "set out the goodies". So I'm drinking my pitch black coffee while my coworkers are slathering cream cheese on bagels and licking the sugary donut glaze from their sticky fingers. (Cue the pity party music.)

What are you favorite foods at the Thankgiving feast? For me, that would be:

  • roast turkey
  • stuffing from inside the bird
  • homemade cranberry sauce (oh, so TART!)
  • my brother's homemade rolls
  • pumpkin pie
  • chocolate pie

To retain my sanity, I might pop in tomorrow. Otherwise, I wish my STalk family and friends a happy, peaceful Thanksgiving!

Give rose

People go hours without food??? That sounds terrible!

Rolls. Mashed potatoes and gravy. Dessert.

Anything with carbs, apparently.

Oh my gosh I think you're wonderful. I feel the same way. lol I survive like 5 minutes unfed.

Lol, at first I was feeling ashamed, like maybe I should try not eating all the time? But you have validated my feelings! Blum 3

I've tried not eating all the time. it just makes me grumpy and starving and my stomach gets more vocal. Eat away!!! No shame!!

I typically eat every 3-4 hours. So... 6am, 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm. This keeps me stable. No, I'm NOT eating full meals.
6am is a piece of fruit or protein shake. 8am is a protein shake or oatmeal. 2pm is always a piece of fruit.

Meanwhile I just start my way at the front of the pantry and work my way back until there's no food left and I'm forced to decide if I'm going to eat the wall or stop for the night... LMAO (kidding, partially)

that sounds like a really good structure to me!!! I'm sorry!

Did they explicitly say no to eating doors? Or did they just say "no food." VERY different verbiage right there... We may have found you a loophole...

Luv me some carbs!!! On rare occasion, I make a meal out of loaded mashed potatoes. Sigh...

I often order a baked potato as my "entree" when we go out to eat.  With extra butter, sour cream, bacon and cheese.

YUM!!! Potatoes are so versatile!

  • Not enough chili for a full bowl? Toss it on a baked potato!
  • Leftover taco fixings but no shells or chips? Toss it on a baked potato!
  • Extra baked potato? Cut it up, fry it in a skillet, and add some beaten eggs and chopped veggies for a frittata

One of my fave Sunday breakfasts is Loaded Potato Eggs. I cut up leftover baked potato, brown it in a skillet, add beaten eggs and scramble. Top with chopped bacon and cheddar cheese and scramble a bit more. Nom nom nom!!!

I likely would have snapped at a few people if I had to sit there while they ate all that food.... I get hungry SUPER fast. So no starving to gorge later for me!

I love the apple pie!!! Made from scratch.. Not store bought!!! Though your brother's homemade rollsa are making me hungry for my great grandma's recipe for Rolls... That sounds delicious!

We'll miss you tomorrow Aniki!!! Happy Thanksgiving!

PA, I've been gritting my teeth for the last hour. I have already punched my Dammit Doll twice. Only 25 hours to go. Crap!

ProbablyAlreadyInsane's picture

Try not to grit your teeth too hard. If you grind them away you won't have anything left to eat all the delicious food  you deserve once you survive this liquid only nonsense!

I suggest purchasing a punching bag... Mine has been a life saver...

Hola Aniki!

I have so many favorites to choose from but if I have to make a choice it would be the fried, turkey, rice & peas and my specialty drink coquito.

Hope you have a happy fun-filled holiday amiga and wishing everyone an abundance of happiness. I'm thankful for all of you on this board.

Happy early Thanksgiving everybody. No actual prepping for this feast of feasts, I'm just going to jump in full beast mode and pray that the spandex on my stretchy pants holds out and doesn't give out on me halfway through the gluttony.

My favorites are:
Brussels sprouts wrapped in bacon with a lemon dipping sauce
Wild rice with sausage and mushrooms
Sweet potato souffle
and last but not least pie, more for the whipped cream topping than the actual pie.

Advice, if only my DH was on board with brussel sprouts! He calls them Little Green Balls of Death. I have to cook them when he is NOT home, then air out the house before he returns. Nothing like having all of the windows open when the wind chill is -15!

Good luck!!!

I'll be away on vacation so no turkey, which is fine. We're having it on Xmas anyway. I make a great bird so that's my favorite. With homemade gravy (made with giblets but I'm not telling anyone in this house!).

My mother's homemade pecan pie. She makes it at Christmas and Thanksgiving, and that's it. You can't even request it for your birthday.

I make Alton Brown's brined turkey and it's so tasty. I look forward to eating that Thursday and eating leftover turkey sandwiches (dark meat on homemade white bread with thick slices of medium cheddar and real mayo) all weekend.

Lt Dad, I haven't had a decent pecan pie since my dear Southern Mom passed away. I don't know if my sister isn't up to the task or if Mom's love made it taste extra special. Maybe she dipped her finger in the mixture to make it better....

I am in the UK so we don't do Thanksgiving. However, I do love pecan pie with lots of cream... I don't exactly understand pumpkin pie. I love pumpkin, but pumpkin pie is just beyond me in the yuck stakes.

Happy Thanksgiving to all celebrating it. (And to all of us who have many reasons to be thankful and practice gratitude every day.)

We are celebrating with my BFF (in her 90s).  I'm taking my homemade rolls.  I've been trying to make good rolls for years and years, but finally found a great recipe.  So now I have to make them for every event.  I'm taking a bunch of other stuff since my friend isn't up to doing much cooking.  Her two sons will do a lot too.https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/71528/school-lunchroom-cafeteria-rolls...

There is something so comforting about freshly baked bread/rolls. Biggrin

• Roasted Brussels Sprouts & Apples with Black Walnuts salad. The recipe is from a holiday book I got at Williams-Sonoma one year. It’s absolutely divine. We make it every Thanksgiving.

• Green Bean Casserole - but the homemade kind. I think I got it off of Pioneer Woman’s website?

• Homemade cranberry sauce

• Pies: Pecan pie, pumpkin pie

Aniki-Moderator's picture

It's the green beans. DH calls brussel sprouts "Little Green Balls of Death". I call green beans "Little Green Spears of Death".

Happy Thanksgiving Aniki.

Fried turkey, smashed potatoes with asiago cheese, asparagus with garlic butter, pumpkin pie.
