I hate to say it, but we need to go back to the CAPTCHA. It was a total pain in the ass, but not nearly as much as 3 pages worth of spam!

Lol! Love your tagline Old Dart - friends don't let friends become stepparents. I cant tell you how many times I've warned my sisters... I have five of them... lol

New account need to be restricted on how many blogs they can create at once. If new accounts could only create a new blog once an hour, then wed be able to keep up with reporting the spam. No one really needs more new blogs than that anyways. And after like a week, let the restrictions lacks off a bit.

No legitimate blogger is making 15 different blogs in 7 minutes.

Gosh - all these Spammers and so many people who were previously valuable contributors - who other valuable contributors liked and appreciated - recently banished. What a shame.....

It is truly funny. I work on the internet and make web pages, etc...it is amazing how someone has nothing better to do than to SPAM. Geez, I have to promote each one of my pages one by one in my own facebook, twitter, etc...it's a bit crazy how these bozos get away with it. By the way, I also spend some time deleting comments which are SPAM. Obviously, it's not a forum, so it's easier for me to approve/delete posts, but it still takes time and it's really ridiculous.

There has to be a better way lol But, I will say, it happens everywhere...getting pretty sick everytime I log into my yahoo email of having some idiot named BAMBI IMing me lol

When everyone complained about the CAPTCHA we were given fair warning that removing it would result in more SPAM.

For so many people having all the answers, maybe one of you could take time out of your lives to build a SPAM-free, CAPTCHA-free, perfect stepparenting site that that you would be willing to maintain & run in addition to the life you have working full-time, raising kids, & being a partner in a marriage/relationship that the rest of us could enjoy & benefit from on a daily basis free of charge like we do here.

It's a shame we all enjoy coming here to enjoy the benefits of a site we have to put no effort into keeping, & still take the freedom to repeatedly criticize those who are willing to have it here for us.

In my time here, I know of at least 3 members who were convinced they could build a site better than Steptalk. They've solicited members from Steptalk to join their group. Their sites have FLOPPED, & they end up right.back.here.

To suggest that someone who volunteers their time to the upkeep & moderation of the site should sit & take the thankless criticism, simply let it roll off their back, & continue plugging away at a job that's being chastised already to make the thankless people happy is ridiculous.

My take on it is, if you don't like it don't use it. If there's a better place, go. If you can do it better, do it.

Obviously we all benefit from what the site has to offer or we wouldn't keep coming back. Obviously those who think they have all the right answers don't. Otherwise their sites wouldn't have failed. Maybe instead of complaining about everything we don't like, we could just be thankful we have people willing to put their personal time into making Steptalk everything it IS instead of criticizing them for everything it isn't.

One of the most wonderful things we have in life is the power to choose. If you don't like it, you always have the choice to leave.

Several people (myself included) I tried to warn everyone, a few times, that getting rid of CAPTCHA would be BAAAAAD. Hopefully they will just take it back to the way it was and everyone can stop griping about it.

I always have to type in a CAPTCHA when I post (which isn't very often). Like right now, I see the CAPTCHA at the bottom of the page.

And they should let you. They have one moderator that basically said she was not going to delete things because she was mad at the board. I agree with everything that storm said, but they do need moderators that do not take this so personally. JMHO.

I agree with what you said, and how many moderators are there, anyway? There can't be that many. I only ever see stuff from Ana or Dawn.

HERE HERE

Even if there are FOUR moderators, I think that number is not sufficient for this size of a site.

OK dumb question about CAPTCHAs...isn't there a way to make it so every new member has to do the CAPTCHA for every post up to a certain point, and once they've posted so many successful, non-spam posts, they no longer have to do the CAPTCHA?
