Groundhog Day Christmas
I am going crazy. SS just told us for the w 11 th year in a row to get his kids legos for Christmas. They are girl almost 14, girl 12 and boy 8. We have bought thousands of legos! I told DH I am not buying anymore f- ing Legos. And I never curse out loud! Plus he said he will send their list of Legos tonight. After Black Friday, cyber Monday and all the rest. DH only comment was "now that we missed the sales" to which SS said well nothing they want is on sale. This is why I have come to dread Christmas. Does a 14 year old girl really want Legos?

Stimulus checks?
Someone told me people with kids are still getting $300 per child per month. Is this true? I'm trying to figure out how SS wife is still not helping support the family with a job while SS is out of work.

Birthday dinner with SS
So SS still isn't working due to arm injury and his wife isn't either, He asked DH to do BBQ for his birthday and they would come over. No offer to bring sides but did ask them to be Mac and cheese, potato chips and salad. No we aren't all toddlers, the youngest is 8 but that is how they eat. I just made Kraft Mac and cheese since it had to be "creamy" to be accepted at all. The 3 kids 8,12, and 13 ate a chicken leg and a few bites of sides and that was it. I think they snacked on chips before coming this time. Last Christmas dinner I made was ruined by milkshakes.

Helping stepkids with stay-at-home mom
Would this bother you? You and your DH work and are close to retirement, but SS injured himself and is on disability for a year recovering. His wife is a stay at home to 3 kids who are in 3rd grade up to middle school. We are now going to help supplement his income ( will be several thousand dollars) until he goes back to work probably next year. I feel like I am working, yet she can continue to stay home. She is very smart and used to work in a doctor's office before the children. She could probably get a job with her kids school even.

Step kids disengaged with us
Oldest SS and wife have never been what I would call close with me. No anger, no affection, just polite. They have 3 kids. DH and I have been married 10 years and the relationship with them is down to birthdays and Christmas for the most part. DH laments it sometimes wondering why SS won't come by or anything. Now it is Easter weekend, haven't heard a word. I disengaged after they ignored my sons wedding completely. At Christmas they took the kids for milkshakes before coming to our house and the dinner I worked all day on wasn't eaten.

At what age should adult step kids pay for own cell phone?
Stepson 27 is an engineer for a software company making more than I do, yet we are still carrying his cellphone on our bill and DH acts like we are supposed too. What's it going to hurt, it's just $50 a month he thinks. So as far as I am seeing, this will be indefinite. SS doesn't date so getting married is not looking like a step he will take. SS isn't going to ask to take over his bill and I don't blame him! If I tried to discuss it with DH it would just make me look like the mean stepmom.
First Blog
Never blogged before but I can't stop thinking about our situation and so maybe this will help? Here is the fam: SS38, wife and 3 kids, DS 35 married, SS 27, DD24. DH lost his middle son 5 years ago at 26 due to misdiagnosis. So, we have been through the very sad loss of one SS. DH lost his dad 10 years ago and this year his mother passed away. Thanksgiving now has drama.
