What would you do?

This is small but small things also come around to bite me in the posterior.

DS left for college recently. DH got him a book and gave him a card as a going away present.

OSS is leaving for college soon. I can get him something and give him a card but I finally have no idea what to get him. I used to know stuff about him but since I disengaged from the skids and DH, and he hasn’t come to our house this summer expect maybe five times, I have no ideas.

(DH was also instrumental in me not bonding with the skids. I won’t get into why. I could have been very close to OSS.)

Where this can bite me is if I don’t, DH will pout and I just don’t want to deal with that.

If I do, it may not be the right thing. DH will pout and I just don’t want to deal with that.

My compromise to myself: ask you guys. What small and practical thing would you get a nephew that was leaving for college?

Get a card and place a giftcard to target, a grocery store or a fast food place that is on or near the campus inside the card.

I have done this same thing when faced with giving a gift to someone who I didn’t know well, like a niece, nephew, etc.  most college kids love gift cards for food.

Can't go wrong with a standard $50 VISA.  He doesn't have to worry about another thing to pack, it can be for fun or something practical as he sees fit, and he is in control making an adult decision for what he really wants.  How is anyone going to complain about that?

Card and a gift card to Target, Walmart or a fast food place on or near campus.

You can google what fast food places are closed to his school.  Or some schools have fast food on campus.  Get him a bunch of $10 cards

A card and cash. Those Visa gift cards can be a PITA to use.

BTW, your 'D'H is being a poop.

I happened to be cruising a random shop and came across something that’s practical and fun. And it was the last one, the display version, so the store owner gave it to me for super cheap.
