Yes, I talk about food. A LOT. I am obsessed with food. My world revolves around it. It sustains me, it comforts me, it annoys me... and it rules me. I have an eating disorder. I'm a recovering bulimic. If you're not familiar with bulimia, it is an eating disorder usually characterized by periods of binging — or excessive overeating — followed by purging. Purging means you make yourself BARF.

OT - Tone-up Tuesday

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. It can often be a day of overindulgence, 6000 calories, and 200 grams of fat.

Do you diet beforehand and lose a few pounds so you don't have to worry about calories?

Do you fill up on low-cal things BEFORE the big meal so you won't be able to eat as much? Maybe a huge bowl of plain lettuce or a bunch celery sticks?

What things will you use/do to 'exercise' control?

OT - Queasy Aps

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Queasy = Quick + Easy. It's been an inside joke in my family for years.

We're going to a Halloween party this weekend (costumes - woo hoo!!!). While I already know what I'm taking (tortilla roll-ups using Spinach and Sundried Tomato tortillas - the tomato ones look more orange than red), I'm always open to new 'queasy' appetizer recipes. Someone might have one (or 3 or 7) I can use for another holiday.

Any queasy recipes you'd like to share, STalkers?

OT - Forn Friday

Aniki-Moderator's picture

'Forn' is 'food' and 'p0rn' combined. This morning, I have a hankering for cinnamon rolls. NOT those premade, chemical-laden things you get in a tube with a little tub of sickeningly sweet white 'icing'. ~shudder~

OT - Throwback Thursday

Do you have a favorite FAMILY childhood memory?

I have countless happy memories of doing things with my parents and siblings. But the ones that stick out in my mind are always in the kitchen. And EVERYONE - 5 kids and 2 adults - was in the kitchen/dining area. Someone setting the table, someone filling water/milk glasses, someone putting the 'extras' on the table (salt, pepper, salad dressing, butter...), someone cutting/slicing/chopping garnishes, someone getting serving spoons/forks/tongs....

What do YOU think a step parent is?

Aniki-Moderator's picture

IMHO, I have always thought that a STEP parent is someone who STEPS into the role of parenting because one or both of the child's parents are absent.

I was a step parent to 3 children because BOTH parents were absent.
Biomom: abandoned her children to drink and 'ho. And I do mean she was literally a 'ho. No job, so how else was she going to make money for her drugs?

Biodad (my ex): an alcoholic. When he was physically in the house, he was still unavailable.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was 14, I wanted to be an archaeologist. I found the discoveries to be fascinating and the thought of digging up some 'buried treasure' was exciting! I actually 'interviewed' an archaeology student (who had been on digs) for a paper. That's when I learned that a lot of your time can be spent digging/sifting through tons and tons of dirt for days/months/years without finding so much as a shard.

OT - Thankful Thursday

Aniki-Moderator's picture

There is so much craziness any more, that it seems like 'crazy' is becoming the norm. Because of all of the craziness and discord running rampant in the world, I wanted to take some time to think about things for which I'm thankful and what keeps me grounded.

* My Dad. When I was younger, Dad was the calm in the eye of the storm. He still is.

* My DH. Like Dad, DH is also the calm in the eye of the storm. I can be surrounded by chaos and DH is my rock. DH having this same quality as my Dad is one of the reasons why I fell in love with him.

OT - Women Wednesday

What do you do when the Black Dog of Depression dogs your heels or bites you in the arse?

* Watch a comedy. Laughter is a pick-me-up.
* Listen to/watch a comedian. George Carlin, Jim Carrey, Sam Kinnison, Eddie Murphy.
* Weed my flower garden.
* Fix/clean something (broken drawer, move heavy furniture and clean under/behind) and feel a sense of accomplishment.
* Listen to music (One Toke Over The Line by Brewer & Shipley and Happy by Pharrell always lift my spirits).

OT - Forn Friday

Aniki-Moderator's picture

No, I did not misspell a word. I created a new one. 'Forn' is 'food' and 'p0rn' combined. The purpose of Forn Friday is to discuss food that makes you drool at the mere thought. Maybe your heart skips a bit and flutters. You eat slooooooowly so you can savor Every.Single.Bite. Could be sweet, could be salty, could be savory, could be umami. It's all about the food, baby.
